went there with a group of 5 girls and we were treated very very well. got seated right away and the staff gave us wonderful service. it's definately a 'see-and-be-seen' place, where you are constantly getting the up-and-down look from everyone around you. it has more of a club feel instead of a relaxing dinner feel. however cool the atmosphere is, the food is a little odd. i got the ravioli, which was good if you removed most of the sauce, but the sauce had really odd herbs in it that just didnt work together very well. presentation was impressive. good drinks. i will definately be going back, but i'm not sure what to order to eat...

The atmosphere was really enjoyable, you should really check this place out. Food was delish and reasonably priced. Would definitely return when I visit NYC again.

The space is simply beautiful, with very good table spacing. Staff was excellent from the initial greeting (very hot hostess), and servers. I found the appetizer choices rather limited and the entrees were garnished with sauces that were too rich and heavy. Also, some of the garnishes were awkward. The food itself varied from very good (striped bass), to so so (halibut that was too dry). And in general, everything was a bit salty. Overall, a pleasnt enough experience to give this restaurant a second try.

This is an incredible dining experience, Everyone should try this restaurant, you would really enjoy it.

When you first walk in you can't help but notice how beautiful and unique looking this restaurant is. I had 8:30 reservations and was seated right away. The staff is very friendly and are very attentative. For dinner I had the calamari, snapper special and my girlfriend had the trout and butternut squash soup, all dishes were excellent. For dessert I had the black forrest cake which was very rich and prepaired nicely, but what I really enjoyed were the home made chocolate that the waitress brought over with the check. The chocolate melted in my mouth... After dinner we went downstairs which is equally as beautiful as upstairs but totally different looking. Cool tunes are played since the downstairs level serves as a lounge and dining area. Overall this was a great dining experience and would def come back to butter.

Why are there not more restaurants like this? Well thought out food, served with no pretention, and a fantastic wine list to boot!

Went to Butter during NY Restaurant Week, despite lukewarm reviews on the site. Was pleasantly surprised by the food and service - much better than expected! We had beet salad and goat cheese salad (OK) and butternut soup (great!) to start, grouper and duck for entrees (both excellent) and passion fruit flan (delicious) / apple crisp pie (only average) for dessert. The waiter was caring and helpful - we never felt snubbed, even though Restaurant Week service in other restaurants generally comes with an attitutde. They seated us downstairs but if you get to choose your table, the top floor seemed more 'happening'. 20% service was already built into the check which we appreciated - dinner came to roughly $70pp. Would recommend this restaurant to others.
