This is one of the most overrated restaurants in NYC. We were seated in the basement which looked like a dirty, sleazy club lounge. Maybe if we had sat upstairs it would have been more of an enjoyable experience. Main course took over an hour to arrive and the food is way over priced for what you get. Honestly, I would have been happier staying home and ordering a pizza.

i might have enjoyed it more if we werent seated in the basement where virtually nobody was there especially during restaurant week. i came here bc of the hype from gossip girl (yea i know silly). but i had to try it and it was NOT worth the hype. definitely overrated and over priced. even with the restaurant week menu the food wasnt worth it. the atmosphere was the nicest thing i can say about this palce. even the waitstaff wasnt as friendly as i wanted. the only friendly person was probably the hostess.

Food was spectacular. The waitress was very helpful and we enjoyed all of her recommendations. I had no problems with the service. Food came out in a timely manner but we never felt rushed even though it was quite busy. I generally don't enjoy restaurants that have a "clubby" atmosphere but at Butter it wasn't overwhelming and it actually worked. I'll definitely be going back.

I have been wanting to try Butter for the past year. I had some friends in town from out of state and they made the booking based on reviews. We sat down at 9:45, ordered at 10:00. The food arrived at 11:45!! Are you kidding me? I complained and the waitress offered those people in our party that were done with their drinks another round - um, what about those of us on a full drink? Poor service. It took the bread 15 min. to come out! The DJ was a whole other story. I have lived in NYC for 4 years. This was the worst restaurant I've been to. If you like a Bridge and Tunnel atmosphere - then this is your place! CHEEZY! Never will go back. Read all the reviews and listen - DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!

A disappointment. I ordered the heirloom tomato salad, which was rather tasteless with globs of semi-melted cheese haphazardly placed on the plate, the mushroom tarte, which was not good, and a side of okra, which was so greasy it made my stomach turn. My friend had a bland halibut dish that is a bad interpretation of a stellar dish at le cirque. Overall, the food is far from worth it. Our waitress was attentive, almost to the point of annoyance, yet we still had to wait ~40min for our entrees. The decor is atrocious. I'm not sure what they're thinking. The "birch room" is reminiscent of a bad club that at one time was popular, but now is populated with cheesy B&T-ers.

We went during restaurant week and perhaps that's why the service was so poor? The food was ok but don't know what the big hype is. I guess that's why they call it a "trendy restaurant". Save your money and go somewhere else less pretentious! Only thing good was the wine.

Food during restaurant week - a nice assortment of dishes that did not disappoint. The beef short rib was incredible. The lime tart was so-so (prepackaged and thawed). Service was spotty - the waiter couldn't remember what course we were on (twice) and we had to ask twice for one of our desserts. But, the atmosphere was great, the music great, the food (once we got it) was great. I would definitely return after restaurant week was over (I think the service reflected the smaller tip the waiters were getting).
