Ok, I was prepared for the super trendy crowd, but for a late night dinner on a Thursday, it was mostly middle-aged women pretending to live in a world from "Sex & the City." Not pretentious, though, as I had expected it to be, and clothing actually covered most people's bodies. The service was ridiculously slow and just poor. The food is nothing special and pretty bland/boring. Not many vegetarian options. Even the peaches on my friend's dessert were from a can! Over-priced, not terriffic food, lously service and not even that exciting of an atmosphere= me not going back.

We paid over $300 for a meal, just to be rushed through the end of it and asked to please leave b/c they needed to turn over our table. Not recommended if you want a nice liesurely night of dinner and drinking with friends (unless you a huge group of women who are squealing, screaming and potentially doing shots, you're more than welcome, apparently) It was dissappointing. But the food was amazing.

We selected Butter for its location, not its reviews. We'd been to Gramercy Tavern the night before. Well, were we surprised to have our favorite meal, friendly service, absolutely beautiful surroundings ...a new favorite restaurant! The food was amazing. And we're foodies, so we have eaten in many of the world's finest restaurants. The wait staff was friendly and there when we needed them, but disappeared when we didn't. I will definitely put this at the top of the list when we return to NYC in July and again in October! This is a "not to be missed" experience!

The wait took forever. Was really disappointed since no one even came to update us on the status of our table. Almost left many a time, but decided to stay just because we had already waited for so long. The waiter we had was really nice and the food ended up being excellent.

I thought the food was mediocre..but they did do a good job of making us feel welcome and warm...the service was attentive but not overbearing and the hostess did give us a sincere apology when we got there and found out the birch room was closed. I would suggest this more as a dessert place or a place to enjoy cocktails.

I took my fiancee out for a belated Valentine's date on a Friday and was very happy with what we experienced. The food was great and the waiter was excellent. We were expecting nose-in-the-air attitudes, but only had a hint of that from the female hostess. We were seated in the upstairs area (the quieter of the two levels) for dinner and then ventured downstairs for a cocktail. Cool atmosphere. Wouldn't rush back there, but would go if we were in the mood.

I dined here recently with a group of 14 for a night of fun and great food - we got both. The staff was surprisingly unpretentious and very attentive/accomodating. The food was great with halibut, veal chop and raw tuna salad getting the highest reviews from us. I have to admit that with duck being a fave of mine and knowing how full-flavored this dish is naturally, I found it to be a little bland. It was so refreshing to know that I found a spot where you can actually relax and dine, unlike many places where you end up doing more work than the staff. I highly recommend this place and I suggest heading downstairs for the DJ, whos spins at 10:30. The under-the-stairs crowd was great, if a bit young.
