    Great place

I have been to Butai three times; each time they have impressed me with exceptional food and service. The menu ranges from great quality sushi to adventurous authentic japanese dishes. The service has been fantastic; they go out of their way to make your meal enjoyable. Example: they gave a member of my party a free drink because she wasn't happy with her last one. The space is also beautifully and tastefully designed.

    Great Place!

I went with a friend and had a fabulous meal. We shared over a dozen small plates, and tried all the specials. The food is good, very beautifully presented, and small enough where you can have a taste of each without overindulging. The ambience is amazing - very minimal and zen-like. A great place to go with a group of friends - a bit of a Japanese "Tapas" restaurant.

    Great Find!

That you and a guest can order fifteen beautifully prepared small dishes and enjoy all the diffenent tastes and textures and get a modest bill at the conclusion is a heavenly experience. The reviewer below who complains about the small portions probably complains about fish being raw in a sushi bar. *The portions are supposed to be small*. Order lots of them. Get the big jug of hot saki. Marvel at the beautiful decor. Lighten up! Enjoy yourself!

    2nd time the last

My friend and I first visited Butai last September and returned last week for our 2nd visit. We thought the place was awesome on first visit. Well, things can change rapidly. The ambiance is still lovely, but that's not the only reason to dine out... the food was mediocre at best and the service was similar. The server was a bit intrusive.

    Unhappy with the experience

We were not impressed with the food. The portions were pretty small and the waitress was not very hepful with the selection of our meal. The sushi was tiny and overpriced becasue they charged you extra for every little thing such as adding avacodao to your yellowtail roll. On the positive side, atmosphere was very nice and the waitress was friendly. The Co-Ed bathroom is a must see!

    Happy hour meal

A friend and I took advantage of the 5-7 happy hour to order 6 charcoal skewers, $6.50 per 3. Our favs were the sausage, tripe (?) with radish, and bacon wrapped asparagus. The rest were fine too. Add a bowl of (less than perfect) rice and you've got a cheap light meal.

    Great Ambiance- Terrible Service

I wanted to try a different Japanese restaurant in this area so I went onto menupages and saw that the reviews were pretty decent. I went with a friend on a Friday night, I made a reservation which is probably necessary. Every table in the place was full. We sat down and it was twenty minutes before we ordered a drink. After finally ordering the food it all came out at different times. We didn't get our appetizer till the end of the meal. It was impossible to get the waitress attention to get drinks. It would have been okay if the food was good but it was sub par at best. Or don't go here on a weekend, maybe you have a better chance on a week night.
