Disappointed
Read so much about this "joint" that I really wanted to try it. Hubby and I went. Were we disappointed. Burgers are okay-but certainly NOT great. These were average in size (patty-not big and thick) fixings on them were nice-but certainly not a big meaty, filling burger. Fries were average. Atmosphere is what it is-a take out place with space to sit. No one cleaning tables, no order for getting a table.

This place is cool!
Look .. this is a burger joint (no pun intended) in the middle of NYC, don't expect it to be cheap. You go for the experience of it. First, it is located inside a reputable hotel. Second, it is tucked in the back down a narrow walkway flanked by ceiling-to-floor curtains. Third, as you turn the corner, you literally walk into a bar like atmosphere. And that's so cool! It is noisy and crowded. But it feels cozy. Restaurants are always parading "real this" and "real that." Well, this is for real folks.

Doesn't get any better
Not a big burger? Go pay $10 someplace else. Basic burger? Go get focaccia bread blue-cheese burger elsewhere? Poor atmposphere? Lousy service? Quit your complaining. If you don't like this place you don't like burgers. It's that simple b/c they don't get any better, not even in your back yard in places where people have back yards and grills in them. Burgers and beer. If you don't like it, I don't like you.

The best bugers in NY
I went on tour of NYC with my school, my tour guide took me and some friends to the 'Burger Joint', I was unsure at first, it being behind a grey curtain and so small. However the atmosphere was great, there were messages pinned up all around the walls, they had the football playing, and a great smell of bugers. I felt like i was now in the heart of New York. Food came nice and fast like it should, and the taste...wow what a burger, it was soft quality meat, not rubberly and hard, it was fat and just how a burger should be. I went back there for lunch and dinner for the rest of my stay. The price was just right, me being a student, the value was perfect. 10/10 burger.

Great for what it is
This is a no frills burger joint that is noisy and crowded most of the time, but if you are in the right frame of mind and are not high maintenance, it can be a lot of fun. On the weekends, be prepared for a long line and no place to sit. If you are fussy about cleaning up after yourself and other diners, this is not the place for you. The atmosphere is very "frat house", complete with beer signs and vinyl booths. A game is always playing on the ceiling mounted TV. The burgers are good, basic burgers, cooked and dressed to order. They have great shakes too.

Overrated
I am not sure what everyone below is talking about. I have tried the joint twice and been disappointed both times. Sure the food is decent, but the long waits and poor service more than outweigh the messy burgers and greasy tasteless fries. If you are going to make a stop at the Burger Joint, ask for the lunch special - you order and pay for 7 burgers, but when you get back to the office 2 hours later you realize they only put 5 in the bag.

It was ok
Apparently this place has the 9th best burger in america according to GQ, that's why i went there. It was around 6 dollars for a not that big burger, that wasn't really worth it, plus it took awile for it to come out, and, although I had asked for it well done, it was pink inside.
