Don't waste your time!
I really wanted to like this place. It looked super kid friendly and the menu looked appealing. My husband and I ate there last Sunday at 10:30 am. We were promptly seated and the kids were given crayons and paper to write on. Not those cheap crayons that snap in half, but the giant crayola crayons, perfect for them. We asked the waiter a few questions about the menu, but he immediately told us that he was a dinner waiter and couldn't answer any questions. He also forgot to give us the brunch menu which we didn't discover till after we ordered. I would have gotten something off the brunch menu. The service was very slow and the food was mediocre at best. The pancakes were very heavy. We tried to find our waiter for about 15 minutes to order a pantry basket, basket of muffins and such, and he was nowhere to be found. We were asked to leave promptly after we paid so that our waiter could service another tip. He proceeded to tell us that He wanted to turnover his tables quickly because he was not generating enough tips during brunch. When I looked over there were several empty tables in the restaurant and NO ONE waiting. I wish we had asked for change, we would have taken a majority of our tip back. Not 100% because he did service us, but a significant portion. We left over 20% and we felt cheated.

Had my wedding at Bubby's last week. From booking the space to the last dance this place did not disappoint. All of my guests said it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding. Tiffany, the event coordinator should be sainted. The wait staff was brilliant. Oh yes, and brunch is delicious too. The owners of the building should be thankful Bubby's is leasing that space. Bravo!

After some ok experiences at my sister and I decided to go for brunch since we were in the neighborhood. Fabulous experiences are down the street but open slightly later. I wished I had waited another 15 minutes and went somewhere else. My sister's Huevos Rancheros were slathered in a low quality salsa, had barely any cheese and WAY overpriced for what it was. I ordered the "sauteed banana pancakes. What I got were dry, and doughy with 3 slices of rubbery bananas. I apologized but ultimately I told my server I didn't like them and politely asked for an omelet instead. She was combative, and rudely inquisitive "Why didn't I like them?" "What did I expect?" "What was I hoping for in my pancakes?" so to make her just go away, I told her I was maybe thinking the dish would come with a bananas foster type of sauce or at least would be something a little tastier/richer. I soon realized her questions were to soften the blow. She would order me another dish but the pancakes would not be deducted because there was nothing wrong with them. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I've waited tables and I infrequently send things back, but I've NEVER heard anything like this before. If a customer is polite, but they are unhappy and they are willing to let you fix it, you just do it. PERIOD! I asked to see the manager thinking that maybe he could offer me some glimmer of customer service but he stood by this ridiculous policy, was rude, used profanity, and insisted I should have asked the waitress more finite details about the richness of the pancakes and whether they were of a bananas foster variety. I couldn't believe this conversation. I just didn't like them! Please bring me an omelet, charge me $22, and let's move on! After a few minutes of pointless banter, he finally agreed not to charge for the pancakes but still wanted to prove his non existent point by going as far to further define Bananas Foster, accused me of interrupting him and leaving him feeling unheard (as if we were dating!) and told me the owners would normally say no to my request but that he would make an exception for me and I should be grateful. Are you kidding me?

Waste of an afternoon!
I haven't been to Bubby's BK in several years but was assured by a friend new menu/new mgmt blah blah blah. Stood at the hostess stand 10 minutes before anyone even came over, was told a 20 min wait which ended up being at least 45. Once we sat were told the kitchen was so backed up it would be another 30. Finally were offered biscuits to tide us over but the waitress kept forgetting to even bring those. I understand being short staffed and busy but at least acknowledge how ridiculous the situation is and not play dumb to it. Never ever would I waste a meal in Dumbo at Bubby's.

Don't get the appeal
It's one of few restaurants in my neighborhood. Over the years i've gone maybe twice to the one in TriBeCa and now twice to the one in Dumbo. The staff is nice but the place is pretty soulless. The food too. In an attempt to change things up we gave bubbys another try today. We split pancakes and eggs plate for brunch. Eh. The chicken sausage tasted like saw dust. I eat everything and I didn't eat the sausage. A cup of coffee, regular coffee was $4. The bill with tip (for one shared plate, a tea, a coffee and a side of chicken sausage) was $40.

What Happened
Do not have your wedding here! First of all, planning a wedding is hard enough but, one of, if not the most important thing is to ensure that the reception food is delicious! My fiance and I embarked on the arduous rite of passage of finding a reception venue for our wedding. After visiting many places, we stopped by Bubby's . The prices are reasonable, the space was great-fun, big, two-levels with sweeping views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. We thought, great, let's have a tasting and then we can book the place. Here's the rub: Bubby's only offers tastings for wedding menu items after you put down your non-refundable deposit. We thought that was insane so, after a lot of back and forth we were able to secure an entree tasting at a fee where we could sample entrees only from the wedding catering menu. So, with fiance and father (he'll eat anything) in tow, we headed to Bubby's on a rainy Friday after work. Once there, our waiter started bringing us the entree items one by one. The presentation was less than impressive with the food slapped in the center of the plate-no garnish, no sides... First up: veggie lasagna Review: had to be frozen. was cookie cutter lasagna, watery and without flavor Next up: pecan crusted salmon Review: overly sweetened crust to mask the blandness of the cat food like underside. Lastly: Steak The best of the three but, not good. Don't get me wrong, the staff at Bubby's is really nice and the Brunch there is great BUT for something as important as your wedding-look elsewhere! Pros: Spacious, Nice Views Affordable Cons: The food is awful!

New management doesn't equal better
I recently dined here after many many years of doing so and man--how the new management has changed the place. Gone are the days of the generous portions, the kids play space, the delicious food. Now Bubby's is just a ho-hum dive with great decor. It used to be fanastic. Go back to the way you were. It was so much better!
