I just had a 1.5 hour lunch at Brother Jimmy's and not because I had such a great time. First, decor is fun ( I'm sure it authentic and whatever) and our waitress was really nice but the service was lacking. Second, the food is majorly mediocre. The place was empty but it still took the waitress 10 minutes to get our drink order and then the rest of our order. 20 minutes later she comes over to tell us there was a "glitch", our order didn't go through, would we mind waiting another 15 minutes for our food and offered us some Hush Puppies. 15 minutes later, she brought us the Hush Puppies with maple buttter. The most delicious thing I've ever had! There was a lot of it too, so I should have just made that my meal and left. But I waited, another 15 mintues later our food arrived cold. Fried chicken was flavorless, mac and cheese could have come out of box, and one could get better corn bread elsewhere. The brisket would have been ok if it didn't taste like it was sitting out! Best part of Brother Jimmy's were the people that were in there and the Hush Puppies. Everything else was sooo whatever.

    Really good ribs!

I got ribs to go from here and was really surprised by the quality. it's pretty good for the price and the side items weren't bad either. it's not the best in the world, but definitely really good and worth the price. for a meatier rib, so for the southern or dry rub ribs. the northern ribs are really favorful, but they have way more fat on them. the hostess was really nice and helpful with my order...i'm definitely going to go back!

    Good fun

Love the ribs here - you just dive in, make a mess and emerge a very happy camper. A good fun place to hang out as well, a fun vibe.

    Texas Says:

I am from Texas. I moved here 2 years ago and I can say that Brother Jimmy's is the only place that tastes like home. The salads are always crisp and cold, the BBQ is always hot and tender, and the service is wonderful. Delivery can take awhile but it always comes organized and hot. I can honestly say that I like the place more than any other on the upper eastside. It truly has a Southern taste and atmosphere.

    Excellent BBQ! Definately recommened.

I'm from the South (East Tennessee), and I LOVED Brother Jimmy's. The Beef Brisket "burnt ends" were excellent and I would recommend them to anyone. Also, the candied yams were delicious. The waitresses were wonderful and the atmosphere is exactly the way it should be. I would certainly rate Brother Jimmy's over other NYC BBQ chains (like Dallas and Virgils). Brother Jimmy's is far superior and I will definately return. My only wish is that they would add a "Kansas City" or "Texas" style BBQ sauce that was sweeter and more tomatoey. But that's not a big deal. I highly recommend Brother Jimmy's for BBQ and great Southern side dishes.

    Great Food, Expensive Beer

The restaurant is good, the pulled pork is great. The group next to us who took down 6 fishbowls of unidentified liquid had more fun than us, but we managed to have fun with $2 PBR's. If you are looking for a night filled with bar-b-que and booze this is your place.

NYC's version of ACC-country doesn't really cut it. I suppose it would be fun if you really like loud frat parties, but otherwise I'd recommend going elsewhere. For those of you who haven't had real carolina BBQ, this is definitely not it. The food is mediocre at best, and in the few cases I've been there, came lukewarm.
