This has been my go to place for brunch for the last year. Food is consistently good, the mac and cheese is so good, cheesy and it has bacon, which obviously makes everything better!! Fried pork chop is always spot on, it's huge and comes with a fried egg and an apple arugula salad thats lightly dressed and complements the pork perfectly. Meatloaf sandwich wrapped in bacon comes with homeade chips and is really good, except for the 2 GIANT pieces of white bread it comes on. Ham steak is also a great choice. They also have pancackes and such but I prefer savory so I can't say how good those are but judging by the plates of them flying out of the kitchen I guess there good. Now there is 1 thing that really keeps me coming back, and that is the most AMAZING bloody Mary I ever had, their version is the bloody bull. It has beef broth and comes with pickled green beans, and has the perfect amount of heat. I would go there just for those!! Now for the downsides: servers tend to favor the hipster types, and it must be obvious that I am NOT because I've had to flag my servers down numerous times for something so simple as a fork and knife while their bypassing me for the group of Buddy Holly wannabees at the next table. And if you are really hungry get there exactly at 12 when they open, or at 3 (brunch ends at 4) otherwise you stand in the narrow waiting area kinda smushed while people bump into you. If you like hearty brunch food with great cocktails take my advice get there at 12 pm this weekend

The menu is unique comfort food. It was delicious. Drinks great too. Easy to find off subway coming from nyc (trust me, I don't know Brooklyn either). Would work for a date or large group. The space also has a lot of local design to it. If some decoration looks neat, ask the manager ,there is probably a cool Brooklyn story to it.

Upon entering Broolkyn Star you are greeted with a warm genuine hello and you'll notice the good vibes that permeate throughout the place.The bar staff is the nicest group ive ever encountered,also when you go notice how spotless it is unlike many other establishments around here.I cant compliment this place enough,you have to try it for yourself.Great job gang

While a soft-spot remains in my heart for the previous tenants, the proprietors of the newly relocated Brooklyn Star have really upped the ante in both decor and menu. A well rounded draft and bottle list, a surprising wines by the glass list coupled with dishes like sweetbreads and a roasted marrow bones so succulent and rich they rivaled Blue Ribbon's made for a menu tour that was delightfully decadent. A hearty Mac n' Chee with the perfect crumbly crust and Jalapeno Bacon Cornbread served in hot cast iron skillets as big as a deep-dish pancake were pure satisfaction and though billed as "small plates" were substantial enough to share. Bartenders Simon and Ryan were attentive and affable and like the polished new establishment they serve are a much needed addition to the area. I most definitely will return to try out more entrees. You should too. Run, don't walk.

The Brooklyn Star was everything I'd hoped for in a Southern-themed restuarant from a Momofuku alum - hearty food, big flavors, interesting treatments, and great value for price. The food is unpretentious standards, done perfectly - country-fried steak, BBQ catfish, cornbread, chicken wings, etc. And while there isn't as an overt experimental bent as at Chef Baca's former restaurant (Momofuku) there are touches of that playfulness here and there - after all, why just make onion rings when instead you could make smoked, pickled onion rings? Sadly, said rings were not available by the bucket, only as the comes-with side to the catfish - and only three of them, at that. Were a whole plate of them available as a regular side dish, I'd be ordering them every time. That aside, portions were more than generous. The main difference between apps and entrees (okay, "small" and "big" plates) was that "big" plates were composed & integrated dishes - a main protein, a couple of sides - while the "small" plates were usually just one item. though a more than fair amount of it. Fried pig tails were as good as you'd expect fried pig tails to be. Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Ham & Apple could have walked right off the Momo menu, though I found the ham pieces cut a bit small - they added a nice flavor to the broth, but the little cubes left one wanting a few more toothsome, meaty chunks to bite into. A Tripe, Bacon and Bean casserole was delicious, for those that like tripe - and smartly served in a cast-iron pan to keep it hot, as tripe has a tendencey to become a bit too chewey as it cools down. The Dr. Pepper Ribs were very good, if nothing earth-shattering - we've all had sticky-sweet smoky ribs before, and these fit the bill nicely. Service was excellent, friendly and engaging. The beer and wine lists are small, but well-curated - you've got the requisite hipster PBR and Lone Star, and a few more esoteric selections that go well with the food. All in all, a great meal at a great price. No complaints about The Brooklyn Star from me. Except maybe gimme more of those onion rings.

What a let down. I'm no food snob, but this place just isn't ready for prime-time. Meatloaf on white bread, I love it, but they managed to make meatloaf out of mostly breadcrumbs and serve it up dry. If you try this place, make sure you BYOB.
