I recently took a group of friends from California here. They aren't exactly experts on southern cooking, but I am from Arkansas. I ordered the chicken fried steak. It is a thin cut steak, pounded and breaded with brown gravy. The meat was tender and the gravy was tasty. The steak was not huge, perhaps 6 oz. It comes with two large sides. I had the braised greens, which were well seasoned and not overcooked or soggy, and the hand-cut french fries. Their fries are thin and crispy. Most of my friends had the same thing I had or the chicken and waffles--a round waffle with 4-5 pieces of chicken on top. Everyone seemed to like their food. I tasted the checken and it was very good. The restaurant is very small and cozy. I didn't see the garden because it was a cool night. The service was good and our waiter was outstanding. Next time I want to try the shrimp and grits or the gumbo. Yep, I'll go back.

Ordered takeout from this place. Probably po boys aren't the best thing to order as delivery, because they were cold and somewhat soggy when we got them, but I was thoroughly unimpressed with the food. Will not be trying this place again.

I stopped on a gloomy Monday evening and oohed and aahed through cornbread, nice wine, oyster poboy and a chocolate mousse and REAL whip cream dessert like no other. I felt like I'd dined with good friends, good friends who know how to cook and serve. I left with a smile. Gotta go back for gumbo and biscuits in the backyard. This place is like no other I've found.

I could eat their shrimp and grits everyday. My husband and I love this place. Its vibe is warm and unpretentious. The backyard is beautiful, the owners are gracious and family friendly. The food is delicious and homey--it just makes you feel good. We love Brooklyn Southern. This is exactly the kind of restaurant the neighborhood needs.

Everything I have tried is excellent. I especially like the chicken fried steak... the mashed potatoes and gravy are delicious, and the steak is as good as any I've ever had. Prices are reasonable; staff is friendly and accomodating.

I've been here twice and both times it was delicious. The staff is very friendly and generous, prices are reasonable, and a great playlist accompanied our meal. The chef obviously takes pride in his preparations (he's an adorable dude with a warm smile and sweet way about him). I hope it sticks around!

I'm aiming to try everything on the menu, and so far it's been awesome. Love the cornbread, the hush puppies, the gumbo, the chicken platter, the pie, the mashed potatoes, the eggs and gravy and biscuits, and the yams so far. Hell, the kale salad is fantastic, and I don't usually go in for that stuff. Can't beat the price in this neighborhood, either. The downside: their small dining room is going to fill up really quickly once word spreads.
