My husband and I went there to dine about a week ago. I was tempted by the Cuban chicken, but I finally decided to have (as my husband) choucroute (a variation on the well known French specialty), which was tasty and abundant. Service was perhaps slow (but because we were in a hurry, otherwise I wouldn't mind), but the waiter was really helpful and friendly; and I did not find the place overpriced or meant for tourists only. On the contrary, I would reccomend this restaurant, especially for the ambiance.

Although the place is overpriced, even for a New Yorker, they do have the best hot dog in the city. Skip the frizzled onion rings (they're greasy and soggy) and just get the hot dog and kraut. It's HUGE, but also excellent. Take it from one who knows! I agree the burger is also good. Pastrami is not good - skip it.

I'd had a difficult day and was very tied when I literally stumbled upon Brooklyn Diner. My plans called for eating in my room, but I had read the reviews and decided to try it out. I'm glad I did so. When I told my waiter I was both dehydrated and in need of a stiff drink, he ensured my ice water and my Midnight Manhattan were delivered posthaste. I had a Buffalo Mozzerella salad and the grilled Romanian tenderloin. The sea salt brought a really nice tang to the salad and the steak was divine. My corpuscles realy needed that boost. I will return on my next visit to Manhattan.

We were typical tourists, and I have to say we were really disappointed. Polenta and no potatoes available for breakfast? I expected the prices to be high, but there are a lot of Diners in Albany that have breakfasts that are a lot better than this for less than half the price. It must be a tourist trap. Service was mediocre at best, even though it was not busy when we were there.

Restaurants can display different personalities. They can be fast, romantic, exciting, or show off wacky themes. The one thing all restaurants must do is to prepare and serve a delicious meal at a reasonable cost. The Brooklyn Diner which I have visited on several occasions almost hits the target. My biggest issue with the Brooklyn Diner is their overpriced items on their menu. Their service is efficient and friendly, The restaurant is clean, but small for the amount of customers that they must seat. As for the food, their Cheeseburgers are very good. I ordered this on several occasions and each time the Cheeseburger was prepared as I had ordered it. On a different occasion I ordered the Pastrami on Rye Bread. Unfortunately the Pastrami was mediocre at best. The price of this sandwich is overpriced for the quality of the food being served.. If you are going to charge high prices to your customers please have the quality of food to match the price. I would recommend the Brooklyn Diner if you desire a very good Burger during off peak dining hours. There are several old school delicatessens in the city that will serve delicious deli fare, that far outshines the Brooklyn Diner

I have been going for many years even ordering in but hadnt been in a few months. Sorry to say prices went up drastically and the service was much less than those prices deserve. Took forever to get correct wine....had to ask for water refills...burger was overdone...that kind of thing. And the burger...always a standby for me but now it has less to offer than when it was $12 and its now $17. No more brioche bun. No more onion rings. It was a very average burger and fries for so much money...sorry! In these tough times that is going to keep me away.

I had the pleasure of meeting a friend from childhood at the Diner in March for dinner. It was so good that a friend of mine from Florida who was in NYC with me to sing at Carnegie Hall asked me to join him for dinner the next night after we finished our performance. Both dinners were the most enjoyable we have ever had in all areasfood, service, atmosphere, etc. We are still talking about it, and trying to find a way to get back to NYC just to return to THE diner! Ok, so we'll probably do other stuff too (we've now sung at Carnegie 2 years in a row) because everyone knows there is so much to do and see in that great city, one can never do it all! Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a Brooklyn Diner in Lake City FL?? Anyway, thank you, thank you for the wonderful memories.
