Head downstairs
Upstairs is a total trap - expensive drinks with no booze. And you will never ever get a buyback. Downstairs is much better - it is a cool smoking lounge with an 80s feel.

Excellent
I had Bangers & Mash. The sausage was very good. It had a nice slightly sweet flavor. For dessert I had Oatmeal crepe. It was exquisite. I'm not big on chocolate. This was a nice flavorful dessert. Wonderful!. I'll be back!

Good food, poor service
I ate at Brinkley's on a family trip to NYC. We were hungry and it looked like a great place to sit down and eat. The menu was definitely limited and a bit pricey and the waitress was an outright snob, as though it was a burden to even take our order. Nearly 45 minutes after we ordered, a guy came over to tell us that it was taking so long to get our food because there was a hamburger on the order. We waited another 15 minutes and he came back to say that they wanted to bring all of the food at once and it would just be a few minutes. When the food came out 2 people did not receive their food, the two non hamburger orders. Finally, everyone got their food. The food itself was good, and certainly fresh. However, the waitress never came back, except to bring the bill and even then she grabbed it out of my hand before I could complete my signature. The food might have been worth the price if the service had even been mediocre.

Yay!
Don't eat the food here but head downstairs to the smoking lounge and have a drink - or three! This spot is filled with trust-fund babies and prep-school meatheads. And us girls that love them!

Great for some of us
People knocking this place don't understand that it is not meant to be for everybody. For those of us in a certain prep school circle, this place serves as an excellent playpen. The prices are high, but it allows only a particular crowd which is the goal. The foodd is basically just so you can handle your liquor downstairs.

Good food, Poor Service, Overly Priced
Food was very good but the drinks were very expensive ($16 for a black label and water-- only other place its that expensive is in Peninsula hotel or Gramercy park hotel -- both places being much more upscale than this casual restaurant). They forcefully added a 20% tip as part of the bill-- I believe that the tip should be paid at the discretion of the customer. Basically, for 3 appetizers and 5 drinks we paid $150!

wow
have eaten here twice now. spotty service both times, though the 2nd time was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy worse. food was ok-had to send some back on 2nd trip. first time food was pretty good, just overpriced. drinks are eh, I would not order the mixed drinks. their beer selection is good. their wine list is good, and it is great to support local wineries. sometimes though, they run out. they don't handle that well. if you are given your wine, take a sip, then told oh, if it tastes different it is because we ran out of what you ordered, that is not the way to do it. also, my husband ordered a beer, never came. waitress told us, oh yeah, we ran out. um, wouldn't you think that you'd try and sell another beer to us? each time we dined there, it was empty. which does not surprise me. each time we dined there, it seemed like amateur night. they forgot to put several ingredients in my salad (nuts, onions). I do not see this place lasting long. there are plenty of places nearby that have both better service and food and are in the same price range. I will not go back
