    Not coming back to Bread

I ate there a few days ago and I'm still wondering how I ended up paying so much for so little. The swordfish I ordered was tough and way too salty. I couldn't identify the semi-cooked grains sprinkled on top. The house wine was muddy and flavorless. Your typical bourgeois Tribeca joint, nor worth trying.

    Great to eat and meet

I've been coming to bread on and off for a while and Tonight I had such a great time that I organized to have my party there next month. before sending out invites I had to check out their reputation. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, while we waited we were entertained by the bartender in the back of the restaurant. Then our waitress was a lovely and friendly girl who suggested the cutting board to start, along with olives and recommended a bottle of wine which I even took a picture of so that I could remember the name. I later found out that it was only her 2nd day. The pasta is good, nothing fancy, but the specail salad, meatballs and chocolate mousse were surprisingly great! when i left I forgot my phone and the waitress ran out to give it to me... Anyway, i am a Happy customer

    overrated

I think this restaurant is totally overrated. I orderd the chicken sandwich which was totally dry and hard. I actually had to put some dressing on it back in the office in order to be able to eat it. The service is poor.

    poor service overshadows standard food.

really disapointed in this place. been here 2x before (2 years ago) and the service was fine. I think the problem was that there was only one waitress for the entire area (including the new expansion). She was very pretty and blond but not the friendliest waitresss ( probably flustered). Anyhow, we received no bread for the table (ironic), had to ask for lemons for our calamari 3 times to 3 different people (which btw was excellent), and our paninnis were both cold. Lastly, water was never refilled. Basically felt invisible. Our bill w/out tip was around $45. This is not outrageous for lunch but, i believe requires more than the scintilla of service they gave us at bread/

    I'll be the nay-sayer

I'll be the one to give this place a less than glowing review. i went there with my boyfriend to celebrate our one-year anniversary--i ate here often when i lived in the area and remembered it as very romantic. the romance is still there, along with a new back to the restaurant and rude employees. we were seated without the wine list and it took us more than twenty minutes to find someone to get it for us. we're in our twenties--young, but over 21, and i think it's rather rude to just assume we're too young to order wine. my boyfriend's eggplant was tasty but my salad was a pile of lettuce with six fishy-tasting steamed shrimps for $12.50. our experience was so poor i was inspired to review the place, something i've never done for another restaurant. the only reason i could think to go to bread would be to be seen somewhere trendy and pay too much for terribly mediocre food.
