    Subpar Service

I live in the neighborhood and decided to go to Bread as our last resort after we couldn't find an open table at the other restaurants in the area. The food was just okay and the service is not good at all. Where do they find rude people like that? I don't think I'll be back even for takeout.

    terrible experience

Despite my better judgment I tried this place again after a bad experience last time. Once again the hostess took over 10 minutes just to seat us even though the place was almost empty. The waitress didn't seem to be anywhere in site so a man who I presume to be the manager eventually came over and took our order, but he never put it in, because when the waitress did come a few minutes later she had to take our order again. After about 15-20 minutes she returned with sandwiches for two of us but didn't have the order of the last in our party. She told my friend only at this point that they were out of what he ordered, and what would he like instead? He ended up ordering a soup, which didn't come until after we were finished eating (even though it should have already been prepared) and it was lukewarm. The chicken in my sandwich was dry but passable, my friend's pasta was bland and overcooked. Needless to say I definitely will not be back again.

Great food, big portions, poor service

Overall, we had my group of 6 had a good experience. The wine was good and the food was delicious and plentiful. HOWEVER, our waitress waited 15 minutes to give us menus then 15 more to take our drink orders. Half our drinks never came so we canceled them when we ordered our food (another 20 minutes later). When the food came, my order was absent. My friends went ahead and started without me and nearly finished their food before mine came. Thankfully, they didn't charge me for my dinner since it took so long, which I really appreciated, but they did almost charge us for the drinks that never came. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and just say we had a bad waitress. Like I said the food and wine was fantastic, so I'll probably try it again. And by the way, the bread is great.

    Service issues

I have never had worse service at a New York restaurant. All of the employees were pretentious and rude, and did their best to ignore us whenever possible. It took forever to get seated (we almost walked out, and in hindsight we should have), they didn't give us menus right away so we had to wait for those, and then the waitress dropped off our check with our food and never returned. The food wasn't great either, I don't know why everyone raves about this place. The bread itself is decent but the sandwich fillings were dry and tasteless.

    good food, bad service

the food is yummy and the 1/2 sandwich/soup combo is a great deal, but the service was horrible for the price we were paying for lunch. would go back again, just not planning on tipping a lot

This is a fabulous casual place!

You dont walk into Bread expecting to be cloaked by Russian models and showered with delicate ego massage. NO! Bread is a fabulous coffee and sandwich place with a CASUAL atmosphere.
