    very disappointing

My wife and I stopped here after going to the Met Museum. Looked like fun with a big crowd, a bar, attactive decor and a guitarist. Service was pleasant, but when the food came it was not good at all. We ordered one of their specialty drinks, which sounded so tasty from the description but basically had no taste at all--like watered down alcohol. The banana crepe was half hot and half cold, as if it was put in the microwave and for too short a time. The banana pieces were hard and tasteless, as if the banana wasn't ripe and the supposed whip cream tasted like spoiled cheese. It was really shocking, as if there's no chef in the kitchen. We did enjoy the guitartist tho.

Why does this always happen to me?

I'm the one whose (simple, straightforward) order always gets delayed, forgotten, mis-cooked. I don't know why, but it's kind of interesting to see how restaurants handle it. Came for brunch. DH ordered an omelet; I ordered eggs benedict. Kind of wish there was just a standard version, but ok. Chose proscuitto. First they bring us an omelet and a crepe with an eggs benedict-like filling. I say, I ordered eggs benedict. They whisk the plates away... but then they bring back the omelet. So it's like a good 20 minutes before my order shows up. Now DH has nothing to eat, and I'm there with this order of eggs benedict (minus the homemade potato chips, I might add), served on a bed of spinach, which is kind of weird (healthy and delicious, but it gets in the way of the english muffin) and the prosciutto doesn't work at all, because it doesn't cut the same way as the fragile egg. I'm thinking they scooped the crepe filling out and dumped it on English muffins, because they made the menu item that has spinach and then just bluffed. It's possible. They apologized (but not too profusely) and they told us they weren't charging for our coffee. Big deal. Why not offer a free dessert? Or a free drink? Coffee: big deal. I don't have the happiest recollections of this meal, so we probably won't be going back. Might give it one more try, but it's doubtful. The service was pleasant and the atmo is really nice but there was a major screw-up, and they didn't do much to make ti right. At least when this happened to me at the Mark, they brought me the best burger I've ever had in my life, and they rushed it so it wasn't that long a wait.

One of the better bistros in the city

Great atmosphere, food and service. It manages to be quite nice, even elegant, while still relaxed and fun. Standard french bistro prices (i.e. not cheap), but the food is excellent and the portions are generally pretty satisfying (for a normal sized guy).

    Awesome Bison Burger

I think this is a great place to grab an awesome burger. The brunch food is also really great. Loved the house made chips too. Fun french atmosphere.

    Barmaid is the best!

Stopped by Brasserie Julien this past weekend on our way to a dinner reservation and ended up blowing off the reservation to stay. The jazz was amazing and the bar maid was mixing drinks custom made for us. Mussels and fries were excellent - we will certainly be back!

    Brunch is Best

Brunch is terrific. When it is so difficult to find brunch on a Saturday......Julien was chosen as a last resort. We were pleasantly surprised. Service is not the most professional but on a lazy morning it was acceptable. Food was very good, Each dish freshly made and all orders came out of the kitchen at the same time. Our new favorite find... a little gem.

Atmostphere is nice... but that's all.

Frankly, its been a while since I've felt as ripped off after a meal as I did after going to Brasserie Julien. The service was terrible it was polite but it was ludicrously slow. I had to ask for several things twice and when the check came, drinks I had ordered but never gotten were on there. It took literally 10 minutes to get the waiter on more than one occasion. When the food finally came I was underwhelmed by both the size of the portions and the quality of the food (also I didn't get the type of mussels that I ordered...). All this and the check was over $50 a person. Ultimately they fixed the check and brought me a free beer but at that point my mind had already been made up not to return.
