One of our favorites
We returned for our repeat visit on Friday for lunch. From the fresh bread basket to the cheese croquettes to the molten chocolate cake, everything was first rate. The entrees, however were the stars. Our guest had a pot of mussels and vowed to return for another meal here. My wife and I count this a one of our favorite restaurants in the neighborhood.

Great addition to Midtown East!
I grew up in Belgium so my favorite part of the meal was the tomate crevette. I couldn't believe you could find those special crevettes anywhere in the States! And there were so many in one serving!! Wonderful! The only thing I would have done differently is use homemade mayo (like they do in Belgium) instead of a vinaigrette. Dining at Brabant Belgian Brasserie was a real treat!

Go for the beer! Forget about the food.
Great beers, nice atmosphere, some wonderful waiters, some not so good. The food is not so good. I ate there twice and the bread was not fresh both times. They can't master simple dishes and try to compensate by adding little twists that don't make the food any better. I have not tried the fries so they might be good (they look good). The strawberries atop the dessert waffles were inedibly sour (this was the highly recommended dessert special).

My new favorite!
Went there for the first time this week with my husband and the place was just awesome! Beer selection is amazing and the food was all delicious. Service was excellent! The only reason I did 4.5 on the food quality was that the portion could have been a bit smaller. (no complains as it was all so delicious). This became my new favorite place instantly! I wanted to keep this gem to my self but couldn't help writing the review... Definitely going back! Soon !

Wonderful
Went on a recent Sunday evening, with friends visiting from CA. Picked Brabant because of the great reviews and also because we knew our friends would enjoy a Belgian brasserie - something they do not see at home. It was a very quiet evening, and at 7:30 there were only three other tables occupied in the little area next to the (beautiful) bar. There is a large dining area behind the bar which was dark and empty that night, but hopefully gets filled on Saturdays or at lunch. The waiter was attentive and very helpful in making suggestions for us, and, as has been noted, the beer list is quite impressive. Three of us ordered beer, and all came in different glasses, provided by the beer companies - a nice touch. We started with 3 different "small plates" - shrimp, scallops and the touted bitterballen - which we had to try, if only for the name! I thought the shrimp and scallops (3 to an order) were a tad expensive at $14. The croquettes were reasonable at $7 or $8 for 6 pieces. Three of us had the moules frites ("when in Belgium" you get the classic dish) and one had the short ribs. All were presented beautifully, the meat came in a large, deep bowl, and the moules came in individual pots; the covers then become the receptacle for the empty shells. The portions were very generous, and $22 for the mussels and the accompanying French fries is a real bargain, especially for NYC. We pay more for fewer mussels at the brasseries in Westchester, where we live. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, with a magnificent wood ceiling, and the atmosphere, as has been stated here previously, is casual and comfortable, ideal for a leisurely dinner and visit with friends. My only caveat, and this happens to be a peeve of mine, is the traditional bentwood chairs, which it seems are endemic to so many pubs and brasseries. I think they should be relegated to ice cream parlors (remember THEM?) as they are really built for either young children or people who don't intend to sit in them for more than 20 minutes. But barring that, it was great. Would definitely go again.

Transported to Belgium
We really enjoyed everything about this new neighborhood gem. The service reminded me of the friendly attentiveness of Union Square Cafe. Eva, our waitress, was so sweet and knowledgeable. Braised short ribs were delicious and a generous portion. Husband loved the Wild Boar Stew. Topped off with the Bananas Foster Belgian Waffle and you've got an amazing meal and experience. Definitely recommending and going back.
