Reasonable value for some experimental reinventions

The lighting seems to have improved (or perhaps those complaining about lights had sat outside). The service was friendly and attentive (though it was a Sunday night). We found the mizo soup not up to par. The guacamole roll was good. The stuffed mushrooms, rice croquette, and seaweed salad were very good. The Mexican bomb and shrimp kataifi were unique and very good, as was the sake. More mayo wasabi and wasabi cream are needed on the Una bombs to really taste them. Good for a casual dining experience with friends and to try eclectic refashioning of traditional fare.

    another addiction!

this is where i like to go when i'm craving something clean, simple but delicious. the tofu salad is fantastic - homemade tofu that is so rich and dense that i could swear it's cheese, served simply with sprigs of watercress, grape tomatoes and grilled yellow squash with a light soy dressing. but my favorite favorite dish of all time is the chilled sanuki noodles - thick udon noodles served in a cold dashi broth with shaved cucumber and seaweed on top (also, a side of shrimp tempura). be sure to sit outside - there's nothing more romantic!

    bozu is wonderful!

I love bozu! it's a great place for a special occasion as the food is a bit pricey, but the menu is so much fun and the options are amazing! i have loved everything that i have tried there (and i have been 5 times) except the japanese fried chicken which was fatty. the special drinks are excellent, the service is nice and the patio is cool. Love love love this place!

    RE: white mans sushi

not to jump on the band wagon but...speaking of white mans sushi, it is an uneducated sushi eater that has his rice fall apart...you are not supposed to dip the rice in the soy sauce...traditional sushi rice is not supposed to be super sticky...you are supposed to pick it up with your fingers and dip only the fish in the soy sauce...so next time you are at a sushi place and you dip you rice in the soy sauce and the rice DOESN'T fall apart, you can ask yourself "am i at a white mans sushi place?" p.s. you dont season tempura...that is what the soy based dipping sauce is for p.s.s. in regards to your "a retarded idea someone thought of after a nice trip to japan", the chef/owner is from japan and a good number of its clientele are japanese which is something i see very rarely at most sushi places in nyc

Bozu is a great place for a weekend meal

Bozu's strongest asset is its atmosphere. This restaurant exemplifies the good things about Williamsburg's aesthetic in that it's not afraid to be a little weird. Thankfully, it avoids the obnoxiously ironic and kitschy trappings of some of the hipster magnets up on Bedford. I always enjoy sitting in Bozu, as the staff is friendly and the whole place is very comfortable. My only complaint is that the lighting is a bit low at times. I don't mind drinking in half-darkness, but I'd like to be able to read the menu without a flashlight. As far as the food goes, it's a whole lot of "pretty decent". I've certainly had better Japanese food, even in Greenpoint. It's not bad in any way, but it's not going to knock your socks off either. They do have a pretty nice variety though, and I really appreciate the fact that they aren't afraid to be unconventional with their food. As far as a previous poster's opinion that it's "a white man's idea of Japanese food" goes... get a grip dude. It's just not conventional. The food by itself is ok, but the combination of food and atmosphere makes Bozu a fun place to eat. Given the number of bars that have sprung up on Grand St. in the last few years, Bozu is a great launching point for a Friday or Saturday night. They also have the big Japanese beers and a good selection of sake.
