Don't Be Scared! Upscale, Very Gracious!
I love this place so much. First, it is very upscale and I think when you have a restaurant like this, people tend to shy away because they feel that the staff and patrons will be snooty. Not at Bouley. Our server provided impeccable service, asking us if we had any questions. My sister ordered the lamb chops (delicious) and when she told them that she needed them prepared medium-well because she's expecting, the server did not look down at her but instead gave her a genuine congratulations and said absolutely. Also, we both are not ones to eat a lot at one sitting but really wanted to try the same appetizer. Our server offered to split the appetizer on two plates. The couple dining next to us had questions on a meal and the server graciously answered. They want you to ask! The decor is beautiful yet I felt very comfortable there. And the food - wow is all I can say. I ordered the veal chops which were a littlte fatty but tasty and it came with a side of pureed potatoes that were so smooth. Remarkable. I'm very pleased that I chose Bouley for me and my visiting sister. I recommend this for a special occasion. It's worth every penny.

fine dining at its best
The entire experience was great of beginning to end. The lamb is delicious and so was all the bread! The Chocolate Frivolous was chocolate heaven.

Unforgettable
We went to Bouley for my boyfriend's birthday. We both ordered the tasting menu and everything was simply amazing. Bouley is truly an experience! They even gave us items that were not listed as part of the tasting menu which added charm to an already amazing meal. Then we we were getting our coats, they gave us a loaf of lemon poppy bread from the bakery which was delicious as well! The wait staff was friendly and the atmoshphere was warm. We love Bouley and will definitely be returning!! One of the best experiences we've ever had.

A simply magical experience
My fiance and I celebrated an anniversary at Bouley last night. The entire experience food, service, atmosphere was magical. We ordered from the tasting menu which allowed us to sample the rich, dense flavors in manageable portions. My rack of lamb was spectacular his squab tender. His favorite item was the first course a phyllo crusted crabcake (I'm simplifying). My favorite was the spectacular chocolate souffle desserts. (The desserts are the crown jewel of the entire experience.) I also loved the sheep milk ricotta gnocchi that accompanied my rack of lamb. My fiance reminded me throughout that Bouley was more than just the food it's an experience. And it is. The service was impeccable. The sommelier helped us [select] a spectacular (and, yes, affordable) wine. The team of folks serving us were attentive without being obstrusive. The "red" room was fragrant with fresh flowers on every table, and buzzed with excitement of "who's who" at every table. To cap off the night, the wait staff served us a surprise "gift" a creme brule with a candle to salute the occasion of our anniversary. As we gathered our coats to leave a while later, we received another "gift" a small lemon tea cake from the Bouley bakery next door. A wonderful reminder for us the next day of what was simply a magical experience.

simply the best.
this place has some of the best food on the planet. new york magazine had written up the "return from chiang mai" appetizer...it was to die for. the service was impeccable, the tasting menu untouchable, the wine unbelievable, and the desserts the best of all. if you ever get an opportunity to eat at Bouley, do not let it pass you by.

Excellent food and service
Dinner for two. We went for the unlisted seasonal tasting menu, 6 savory courses, plus desserts. Courses included foie gras with prune, colorado lamb rack with gnocchi and red wine jus, king salmon, lobster, scallops and crab meat with a delectable herbal sauce.... All the food was of the highest quality, expertly cooked. Mr. Bouley's food isn't as trendy as some other places, but to me certainly tastes the better for it. The fish was as good as Le Bernardin, and the lamb (tender beyond belief) and foie gras were perhaps the finest I've ever had. Great and charming service, excellent bread, excellent wine, overall we were very impressed, more than we were expecting to be. None of the inconsistency that some reviews mention. I would say my new favorite restaurant in New York.
