Excellent food, terrible service
The food was really good. Which is a shame, as I'd want to go back, but I can't really justify it given my peach of an experience. So, I can cap some of the stories here. I went with a friend, after realizing that rice didn't come with the meal (what's up with that?) I decided to skip given the price of the entrees, and share the rice with my friend. I was told sharing is not allowed for rice or bread. Huh? Is this a buffet? So I indignantly said, ok, no rice for me, I'll have it without. Then I was told that I *have* to order rice or bread with the main course - it's not optional. How ridiculous is that? It's not like an accompaniment where you can choose one or the other. I refused, and needless to say there was a scene. I also pushed back on the "non-optional" tip at the end - again, what is up with all that? Again, it killed an otherwise excellent dining experience as the food is really good.

Funny place
Firstly, the menu is huge while the place is tiny. That should tell you that half the stuff isn't available, which it isn't - any time you order something other than "Tikka Masala" (the most generic bland dish in a cuisine noted for its spice and sophistication) they will frown and tell you it's not available, or it will take too long etc. Second, it tries to be too many things: Indian, Mexican, Italian. You can't claim to be a high end gourmet place (given their prices, snooty attitude and sheeshiness that's what they are trying to communicate) while also acting as a mall food court. Third, it's a hole in the wall. Now I'm all about the food and not the decor, but it looks like they assembled bits and pieces that other people threw away. Overall, the food was quite good when it arrived, but not really what I would have ordered - it was just what was left from a small amount of choices so it was rather pointless them giving me a huge menu. Oh, and a forced 20% tip which I refused to pay on principle - it should be voluntary, but they don't understand basic business.

If I could give this place negative ranking, I definitely would...Its that bad! My wife and I went to this place for brunch. When we entered, this place had exactly one table occupied. We sat and placed our order. We were kind of looking forward to this place as we had ordered food from here after moving to this neighborhood a couple of days before. So after ordering the food, the wait started. And we waited, waited, waited - the table before us finished and left but our order never came. Even tea, which takes apporximately 15 mins to make from scratch took more than 30 mins. We had to remind the server twice before she even got our food. And then the onwer showed up and with a complete lack of apologetic attitude, stated that we make food from start and that's why it is taking time. In my mind, I went, is it unrealistic to expect fresh food in a restaurant coz this man makes it sound like a feat. Sure enough, there are other restaurants who can serve twice as better and fresh food in probably half as much time. Then came the hieght of rude behavior, the owner actually added a 20 percent gratuity to the check. On asking the server about that, she directed us to the menu note that eloquently noted that a 20 percent gratuity is added to all tables. On haggling with the owner we were able to get the gratuity off the check, but the people in this restaurant definitely need a crash course in service and service attitude. I am amazed at the owner's attitude, which may be a testament to the empty restaurant. If you are looking to be insulted, please go here. We are definitely not going back.

Shameful
In a city where Indian food suffers from the perception of mere gutfill, this dive not only supports the stereotype, but sports prices and arrogance I would associate with a class act like Tabla. The dishes are made with absolute disregard for the nuanced (not tongue-singeing) spices which are the hallmark of Indian food. For what you get, quality- and quantity-wise, the prices are shocking. What more would you expect from an establishment that offers Italian and Mexican food apart from Indian?

Nothing outstanding
The food was nothing spectacular here. At the price level, I was expecting something beyond dive food at the places the cabbies go to. Though on the plus side, this wasn't very oily, and I was thankful for that. Was irritated by two things in particular: having to order rice separately, and having to pay a forced tip.
