Lovely space, good food, ruined by...
arrogant staff, VERY poor service, and a music level that is absolutely inappropriate for a dining establishment. I love the food at Bocca di Bacco. Everything was first rate and my friends agreed. The proscuitto apppetizer was almost obscene considering how much meat they served, the sage-butter ravioli was decadent and delicious, osso bucco great, even their beet salad is dressed properly and presented well. I could go on, but the excellent food is not the issue. The music is. I can understand from the large bar, communal table, and large party table in the window that they are trying to keep this essentially warm trattoria hip with groups and a bar crowd. There's nothing wrong with making money. But when catering to that crowd infringes upon the dining enjoyment of the other patrons in the restaurant then it is time to rethink what you are doing. The music was absolutely too loud. I had to raise my voice to speak to others at the table. The hostess, if that was even her position, gave me a blank look when I said it was too loud. Our waiter said he would speak to the "manager", yet nothing changed and there was no follow up. We gave a drink order immediately and it took 20 minutes for them to arrive. We were seated 10 feet from the bar and it was not crowded. The waiter may have been new because he was not knowledgeable about the menu. Our entrees arrived only minutes after the appetizers and we asked that they be sent back until we were finished. Surprisingly this did not effect the food quality, and I think that two of the pasta dishes were thankfully remade before presented again. The wine we ordered to accompany our entrees was brought to the table half way through the meal, so we sent it back. Perhaps they felt we were being difficult because after dinner was cleared it took us 20 more minutes to get anyone's attention and then we were not offered dessert, coffee, or after dinner drinks. Just the check. With proper training in customer service this place could be excellent, but it is marred by poor management, under trained staff, and music played unpleasantly loud.

Too bad
Everything about this place was just the wrong side of good. It's an attractive place. We reserved for 5 and were asked to join a high, communal table, which we refused. They wouldn't give us a table for 6, so we were squeezed into a table for 4. They refused to combine with an empty table for 2 nearby. They forgot one of our starters. The fettucine bolognese was very good -- but a few more strands of pasta wouldn't have killed them. A little more thoughtfulness, a little less greed, and this place could be really nice. I live in the neighborhood and would have gone back.

This place went downhill
I used to love this place but my last 2 experiences have been terrible. I went for brunch today and had both bad food and bad service. The waitress informed us that they were out of a few items on their menu and that their coffee machine was broken. No coffee at brunch? I should have known to leave then..... After asking for bread, the waitress said that the muffins were just coming out of the oven. 25 minutes later, burnt muffins arrived. When the meals finally came, they were not so great either. My boyfriend's eggs benedict was sunny side up eggs. My omelette contained ingredients not on the menu. After this experience and a dinner with terrible service recently, I will not be returning to Bocca di Bacco. Too bad. This restaurant used to be great.

I thought it was great!
I went here Saturday night before a show - I thought the place was adorable. I really liked the ambiance. We sat at the chef's bar - and I felt the service ( specifically the bus staff) was excellent! We did appetizers and shared an entree. All were delicious and I really like the addition to the area. Definitely worth stopping in for a meal. The Gnocchi was wonderful!

wine bar in hell's kitchen
I went recently for drinks and appetizers. I really liked the wood tables and paneling, it gave it a warm cozy feeling. My food was good. I only tried appetizers and salads so I can't comment on the pastas. Good selection of wines of course, including many by the glass. Downside is that it's easy to rack up a bill, but really the prices are in line with most of Manhattan. Service was good when I went, quite gracious. I would go again with a small group of friends, it's a nice place with a good atmosphere.

Such a shame
I initial visit was to the restaurant. Food was great - service was o.k. As we live in the area and I do not cook we have ordered from there 3 times. Will not be ordering from there again. Despite the food being better than average there are a couple of service issues that seem to be a recurring issue. (1) on all three occasion the person delivering the food has had no cash with them. The first time we bent over backwards to find them the cost plus a tip. The second time we way over tipped. The third time we asked them when ordering to send the delivery guy with change. Yes you guessed it - he turned up with no change. This time, bored with the same old s-h-i-t he got a 2 dollar tip. Sorry dude - your issue not mine. Also this is the only Italian restaurant I know that does not send parmesan cheese. First time nothing. Second time we asked for extra to be told it was $2 a serving. The tiny tiny servings. Smaller than salad dressing servings. Despite thinking this was a piss take we asked for five - got two. Tonight we forgot to ask for cheese and got none. It's the attention to detail that kills it for me every time. Will not be ordering or going to this restaurant again. They obviously could care less when it comes to customer service, both in the restaurant and for deliver. Such a shame as the food is above average.

Shady
Good stuff first - its got a great ambience - large yet cozy, wine-cellarish yet not dingy. The waiter recommended a great bottle of house wine but the good service ended there. When I asked for a recommendation for a good veg pasta, he looked at me like I was a little crazy, saying he didnt have a clue (which is odd - its not like I was asking for tofu at a steakhouse). Went with the ricotta spinach tortellini, which you're forewarned is made with butter sage sauce, but turned out it wasnt fried or even dunked in butter but floating in a mini pool of it. Amazingly, it did nothing for it - it still managed to be dry and almost rubbery. Rubbery's good though, when compared to my friend's pasta, which had bones in it. Yes, Im veggie, but I know that's not done. She was fine to stop eating it though - she was already pretty full from the greasy appetisers we'd had including bruschetta which was actually closer to full on chicago style deep pan pizza.
