    Beautiful restaurant and delicious food

This Italian place received great reviews and we wanted to go someplace special. The restaurant is surprisingly well lit, romantic and beautiful, although we were seated close to the door and it got a little chilly. The server who i also presume was the owner was very cordial and knowledgable about wines as well as the dinner menu. our appetizer with eggplant was delicious. The entree was this delicious pumpkin Ravioli with butter , parmiginao and balsamic. also the dessert was pretty good- Chocolate Souffle. Overall , i was very pleased with the restaurant and we can't wait to go back

Really wanted it to be good...

My husband and I have been here twice, hoping it would be better the 2nd time around. Our first visit was ok. Service was slow and people seemed inexperienced. But the restaurant was fairly new, so we let it pass. The food was decent, some dishes better than others, not extraordinary. Our 2nd visit was not so great. The service was really bad, we had to struggle to get the waiter's attention. Again the food was just average. Can't compete with other Italian places in the neighborhood though. Because of the poor service and average food on both occasions, we probably won't return. So sad cause we really wanted to like Bocca.

    Inexperienced Challenged Waiters

So 3 of us ordered a pasta/pepper/pecorino cheese dish. The concept is the waiter comes over, presents the pasta, along with a large cheese wheel which will serve as the 'mixing' bowl. Not only did the waiter mix the pasta and cheese with his back to us, but when he handed us 2 dishes, instead of three, he attempted to take back our dishes to instead split it three ways. Suggestion: Get Italian Waiters whose gramma made this dish every sunday, versus people from areas of the world where Italian means "Pizza Hut"

    Not even wrong

New chef needs more practice. Very small underseasoned portions that were over priced. Service well intentioned but inept, unattentive except when pandering for complements. Sound level loud enough to make table conversation almost impossible, made worse by the loud inappropriate music.

    Poor Service & Decent Food

This place might have been tolerable if were not for the poor service. The appetizers were uninspired and bland. The bread was stale and the entrees were decent, but all of the food tasted better disguised by a helping of salt.. Our waitress disappeared after taking our order and we were left to deal with the busboy who persistently tried to remove the plates from our table. His attempts started after we were served. We had yet to take a bite from out plates and he was picking them up. He redouble this effort multiple times as we were literally filling our forks. The waitress returned only to wipe the post dinner table crumbs onto our laps and then complimented the crumbs in out laps with silverware (she went 3 for 5 with the silverware).

    Bocca is great!!

We called and got late reservations, but who cares what time you eat, when the food is this good. Even though it was 10:15 when we sat down, we never felt rushed at all. The staff could not have been nicer. Our waiter was attentive and when it was the end of his shift, he told us we would be well tended by another staff member. And we were. The roasted beets and arugola salad was excellent. The beets were sweet and fresh tasting. My husband's had the crab cake which it was delicious. The black spaghetti special with rock shrimp, spicy salami and green chilies was amazing. The rock shrimp literally popped they were so tendercrisp. The waiter was kind enough to suggest we split our pasta dish. Boy, was he right. The portions are generous. My arctic char was done to perfection and my husband's seabass was tender and delicious. Top off the meal with a nutella tart. YUM. I'm so glad I got to Bocca. It was one of the best meals we had in NYC.

    Let down again

This was my 2nd time at Bocca first time was in January with a bunch of friends. Everything was great the first time except for the service, but I thought that was because it was new. I went last night with my boyfriend. We were seated promptly, but it took the waiter almost 20 minutes to come to our table. After flagging him down, he says "didn't even see you sneak in" and started barking off the specials. To start we ordered the stuffed calamari (ok taste, really difficult to eat) and the grilled vegetable tower with fresh buffala mozzarella, which was basically overcooked vegetable chunks molded with some tasteless melted cheese for $18. nothing like the description. My entree was excellent, I had the oxtail ravioli. My boyfriend ordered the gnocchi which was just weird. it had curry and carrots. He ordered it thinking it might be interesting but it ended up tasting like a weird Indian dumpling. And the nutella tart seemed like nutella spread into a pre-baked tart shell with some pine nuts thrown on top. Just all around not great. It seemed to have so much potential but just didn't cut it. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things and went on a bad night.
