Pretty good, but expensive!
I had the Havanera, and it was absolutely superb. The green sauce was really tasty and worked well with the chicken. The beans were pretty good too. I also had the guava margarita, which tasted nothing like guava. Pretty pricey: $9. Could get better margaritas elsewhere. One of my friends got a pisco sour and boy was that nasty. It was so salty, and it wasn't even sour! Worst drink ever and that was $10, what a waste! Another one got some weird name drink, one with double B in its name. That was way too strong! Never ever get that! Overall, food was good, but just expensive. We had a table of 14 and the waiters were actually able to accommodate us. We actually were able to sit with each other, and they were really cool, even though we stayed there for quite some time, trying to figure out how much we each had to pay...Also one of my friends got a free drink cause they messed up on his order, which was pretty nice of them.

Good food, rude hostess
I ate here twice in one week. The first time was excellent - delicious food and a very nice waiter. The place seemed a bit inauthentic and expensive for what it is, but I enjoyed me meal. I returned for a second time and I will not go back there. We were polite normal customers taking a normal amount of time to eat and the hostess and busboy etc. were basically hovering over us. The hostess kept looking over to our table and I felt so rushed, as the busboy would constinously come and ask if I was finished and cleaned off everything possible. At one point he came and took just my knife (which I was not using) because it was the only thing he could do to our table, as if that was going to help him clean up faster. By then I was so sick of it that we just asked for the check (which came INSTANTLY), and we left. Honestly not worth the hassle when you can go to a more authentic, cheaper place without feeling rudely rushed. I understand if people are just sitting there talking but I was still eating and there wasn't a huge line or anything, just one party. Unbelievably rude and annoying.

Nice Latin American Flava'
Went with 4 people on a Wed night and had to wait about 15 min, not bad. Decor is decent, a little loud. The food was excellent for the price (4 entrees and a pitcher of sangria for $90). Don't go with a date, but a good time with friends.

Would you like some food with your garlic?
Excellent service, nice place. Good choices on menu but Oh My God, could you put any more garlic in the food? I walked into my apartment after eating and my roommate smelt it from her room. Food is tasteless basically.

Just Wonderful
I cannot think of another place in NYC where you get food this spectacular in this price range - bar none. There are some items it is hard not to order very time. But it is worth giving them up sometimes for the specials and other items on the main menu. It is all SO good. The only down sides are, they will not give you a table unless your entire party is present and it gets very loud during the peak hours, at times you must shout to be heard across the table. It is common for NYC restaurants with limited seating to ask patrons to give up their table after a certain amount of time has passed. I have never seen it done at Boca Chica, but some reviews here have stated as much. It is far too good a restaurant to let that turn you off.

Simply Divine
Visited here last Friday night and was blown away by the amazing flavor pairings. I got one of the specials, chicken with a sort of black bean and avacado salsa, coco yams (WOW. These were like nothing I've ever had!) and rice. Everything was perfectly seasoned and the flavors were very fresh, and I had a group of 7 and we were able to be sat fairly quickly (I think it was around 8:30?). Bravo. A meal that I will remember for a long time.

I agree
I was tentative about paying Boca Chica a visit after reading some of the negative reviews here. However, in the neighborhood with a girlfriend last night, we paid it a visit and couldn't have been more pleased. Atmosphere's a little kitschy but the food! the drink! I had the shrimp ticul which was fiery, flavorful green tomatillo sauce with sweet , fresh shrimp. My friend had the chicken special which we both raised eyebrows over- cooked beautifully- juicy, tender, well-spiced and came with a whole slew of yummy sides- black beans, pillowy rice, coconut yams and a cabbage slaw sans mayo (yay!) A pitcher of red sangria which the waitress promised would not be too sweet. (i can't drink the cloying nectars that a lot of places call "sangria".) It was perfect- strong, fruity, hint of cinnamon and spice. Overall, a GREAT value for the price. i know that when im at a loss of where to go in the neighborhood, this place will be in the forerunners. OH, and the service was FINE- waitress was present but not intrusive. Anytime we needed something, she was easy enough to spot.
