Conveniently located just east of Park Avenue and 4 blocks north of The Waldorf-Astoria, this is where you want to be. As you walk into the restaurant you're greeted by our hosts and a large credenza filled with beautiful bottles of wine. Glancing to your left you overlook the spacious yet always occupied bar, where the bartenders know your name and have your drink waiting for you before you can even say hello. Separating the bar from the dining room is a glass window so you can see all the action of other diners enjoying their meals. The dining room has the good old fashioned steakhouse style with handcrafted wood walls, and French doors that are opened for a la carte seating or can be closed for private dining. The huge, highly marbled Porterhouse steaks coming on platters out of the kitchen are often followed by Maine Lobsters that seem just as large.

Amazing Dining Experience!
I went here with a group of girls for a birthday celebration and the wait staff could not have been better! The atmosphere was very nice and comfortable, not stuffy at all. And the food….. UNREAL! Of course the steak is wonderful, but do yourself a favor and get the pan seared sesame tuna! AMAZING!

Judgemental Service
The sevice was so judgemental when ordering from restaurant week's prefix menu. Comment to Bobby Van's - you CHOSE to participate! If you're going to let ordering from the prefix menu influence the service, then don't sign up for restaurant week! I've been here many times for a $2K+ expensed lunch (don't we all miss those days!) I decided to go for the $35 prefix (if I wanted to pay full price for a steakhouse, I'd choose Wolfgang's in a heartbeat!) Snub me & charge me $1 more/glass than listed on your wine menu. Sorry that you need it! Thank God Wolfgang's opened up close by (200 East 54th Street/Third Avenue), I know where to take my next expensed lunch!

Excellent Steak House
I went to Bobby Van's last week for a birthday lunch and had a great time. The food was excellent, the staff was great, attentive and personable. Never had to ask for anything! The steak came out perfectly prepared along with the sides and the dessert (did I fail to mention that we ate off the extended restaurant week menu!) The best part of the meal was the entertainment (Host), Anthony you are a doll and a great joke /story teller!

My search for the perfect Steakhouse is over!
Our experience at Bobby Vans was really much better than what we have become accustomed to with New York city steakhouses in particular and New York restaurants in general. We started with an enormous martini at the bar. Then moved to the table. The tables were almost all full which in these times was a good sign. Our Server was there to greet us as we were seated and was very helpful in directing us to a beautiful bottle of Cabernet to accompany our Steaks. Personally I enjoy the sirloin with its perfect blend of tenderness and flavor, and Bobby's did not disappoint. This is quite simply the best I have ever had. My wife's Rib eye looked and tasted every bit as good. The sides dishes were amazing. To top it all off the service was something one would come to expect at the four seasons .It was attentive yet there was no hovering. whenever we needed a refresh on the wine our server "Freddy" was there. This was a special experience and I cant wait until next time.

54st Vans is a looser in all categories
I know Bobby Vans for years Ever since there was a real Bobby at the piano in Bridgehampton….I live in Easthampton so still frequent the new one there..I like it..food pretty good! Also take customers to one midtown 46st also pretty good Now 54 st is another story Have eaten there 3/4 times before..each time I give it one more chance I live around the corner at 136 E 56 St Not any more..no more chances…….. not until you advise me there is a new chef, a new broader menu, less expensive items…. then send me an invite to try it once more Particulars: Went in for steak then remembered the last one I had there..funny smell and bad taste and rubbery. So changed mind and went for a veggie dinner .Had a vodka martini..asked for a slice of cucumber in it..i got a PICKLE! .Had mushroom soup..mushrooms? just a dark blob of some tasteless mudlike substance .shrimp cocktail..a disgraceful portion of 3 THREE (for $20.00) old tasting, certainly not the same quality gorgeous shrimps I always get in Bridge .potato chips/onion rings///chips burned and tasteless rings soggy .Creamy spinich..not too too bad, just a bit bitter I stopped ordering..cut my losses there All this for $70 plus tax/ tip Really now 54 street, you can do better than this to attract diners and foodies. The other Vans do! Try harder, you might ride out the recession.

Deceitful
They join the restaurant week restaurants to serve prefix lunches for $24.07. The only steak on their menu has a supplement price of $10. I ended up paying $50 for lunch because I went to a steak house that did not offer steak on their restaurant week menu. The food was ok. I don't think I will ever go back to this restaurant again.
