Recently took my in-laws here and made the mistake of not looking at a menu on our way in. I sat down and practically needed oxygen when I saw the prices. I ordered a salad and my in-laws split a steakI was dying for a steak but I just couldn't do that to them as they were footing the bill. I am not a cheapskate but this is just out of control. Nearly $50 for a steak and then $12 for sides? Can you imagine? $74 for steak, potatoes and a vegetable?!? One of our waiters was nice but they kept switching waiters on us - 3 in the space of 2 hours - it was bizarre.

(As a preface, I read many reviews of OTHER NYC restaurants prior to our trip, and they were mostly severely critical, so this place was a delight to find! ) We were in NYC the week before Christmas. We (me , wife, & 2 college age kids) happened upon Bobby Van's after an 8 pm show. Looked like a great atmosphere thru window, albeit very crowded, but walked in anyway. Got a table immediately near window. Bar and other tables were crowded but in a "good way", atmosphere had lots of energy, and loudness was the typical NYC "fun" kind...we had a blast, food was excellent for all four, and service was exemplary. My sirloin steak was one of the best ever! Our table was surrounded by waiters all evening, & water glasses were never even left half-full. Table was serviced perfectly, despite the full capacity. Waiter was a lot of fun, and even brought us a dessert on the house after one of the dessert menus opened to a blank page (he was embarrassed). We wanted to go back a second time, but our schedule didn't allow . We'll go back next Christmas for sure...first night! My 18-yo daughter said "This was the perfect restaurant!" A great memory.

Impressive all around- the food is exceptionally good, great setting, a fun vibe, and attentive service. What else do you need?

I made a reservation for the restaurant on a Friday night during Winter Restaurant week. After we were seated upstairs, we were told the Prix fixe menu was only honored downstairs. We were then escorted through the shared kitchen to the lower level Grill. It was like being a second class citizen. After the meal, the waitress cleared the check but never returned any change with would have been a 40% tip. Not someplace I would return to.

I live in the apartment building above this place and what an addition to the neighborhood. Steak is unbelievable but prices reflect quality. What is a real treat is the Grill, located on the lower level. Sometimes quiet, sometimes lively NYSE bar scene, always the best burger in NYC. About double size of PJ Clarke's and give u fieis and rings for like $14.

Been here on two times. Thursday night was very crowded and noisy but the food and staff are great. Also gone for a Saturday night-if you want a quiet dinner go on a Saturday there were only three only tables filled but there is a full staff. Great service had 3-4 people waiting on the table. Still the best steak/service in NYC hands down.
