Bobby Van's Grill

My girlfriends and I went to Bobby Van's on 50th thursday night after a long stressful week of work. A lot of my coworkers come here, but I had yet to visit...and was pleasantly suprised! It was definitely very crowded, but a fun atmosphere. We sat at a bar table (we were lucky enough to score one!) and had a great time! The waitress was super cool...and suprisingly nice to a group of girls (its nyc - you know how girls can be) but she was really nice and attentive, despite having to wrestle through the crowd with her loaded trays. The drinks were pricey, but strong...the bar food pretty damn good. Our waitress even bought us a round! Def a great spot!

My husband took me to dinner at Bobby Van's and I loved it! The service is amazing, the staff was fantastic and the overall effect was beautiful. I would definately suggest this restaurant and I will return!

Would I go back to Bobby Van's? Yes, but I'd have to order 2 meals; one for me and one for the guy holding a gun to my head. Our first mistake was sitting at a table in the bar room. Apparently in this area the hostess becomes capable of becoming a waitress as well. As for our hostess turned waitress, let's just say that her responsibilities should have remained limited to hostess. To be clear, I'm not suggesting she is capable of being a hostess, as I"m fairly confident she would not be able to take the 15 second walk to seat a party without somehow coming as mean. As for her abilities as a "waitress," she seemed about as happy to be our waitress as I was going to the dentist for a root canal. When I had the audacity to ask if she had any opinions on the ribeye, she was kind enough to roll her eyes and not respond. I should have known better than to ask about a steak at a steakhouse, so I take full blame for this and marvel at the patience of our waitress for reacting with such grace. Without getting into too much detail, this was typical throughout the meal. I'm not saying she is the worst waitress I've ever had in NYC; I'm just saying that I've been to about 1000 restaurants in NYC, and at 999 of them I've had better waiters/waitresses than this one. What I thought was my one reprieve came when an actual waiter brought over our steaks. However, even he managed to screw up the simple request of asking for a glass of water, which, last time I checked, should probably be served without the need to request. These people could screw up a cup of coffee if you gave them the chance. Now, maybe this waitress had something bad going on in her life at the time, like maybe she was having family issues, maybe her boyfriend just broke up with her, maybe she went on a bad date, maybe her cat died, etc. There are a lot of possibilities, and if this is the case, I apologize. But, if there was nothing wrong with her life at the moment, and this wasn't simply a bad night, I would strongly suggest that she should probably refrain from ever attempting to be a waitress again. The next time I want to pay $150 for dinner and still be treated like a hobo I will be sure to head to Peter Luger for that very privilege. Fail.

My wife and I went there for dinner last week. Service was terrible, food OK, not worth the money. Our most expensive NYC dinner, the least impressive. Dependant on which server you spoke to, the features were different. Definately not a dress code in place either.

Visited restaurant during restaurant week and had the petit filet migon with mashed potatoes. The entire meal was wonderful and the service was great from the moment we walked in until we left. The apple pie was very good, loved it! Will return and the price wasn't bad for the quality of the food and service, enjoyed it.

My sister and I were on holiday in New York from London and ate at Bobby Van's before going to see Wicked on Broadway. Bobby Van's is quite a smart, up-market restaurant and the food was delicious! I had the chicken with mashed potato and spinach with a really tasty jus, I couldn't manage to finish it all but I really wanted to! I shouldn't have eaten the bread before the meal came. The waiters were really friendly and there was a nice atmosphere, although we were sitting by the window and the radiators were really hot! I would definately recommend going to Bobby Van's.
