Boat Basin Cafe

Plastic utensils, plates, serving platters. Condiments came in take-out plastic cups. Service is non existent. Carnival-like atmosphere--all-tacky and no fun. What a waste of a location and view. Do not think you'll be impressing anyone with this place just because it's on the water.

I went to the Boat Basin for lunch with my whole family, we spent the day outside, looking at the Hudson River, what could be better? We were even able to bring our puppy along!! The food was surprisingly good, and not too expensive considering the view and location. And the best part is that you are in Riverside Park, so you can hang out for the rest of the day.

I have only just moved here from London, where service generally leaves a lot to be desired, food is expensive and unimaginative and the same old restaurants have been around for decades. In my three months in NYC I have not once experienced bad service (at least, by European standards), the food is always good and certainly cheaper than in London. The Boat Basin Cafe, however, might as well be in London. After waiting 40 minutes for our wine, being served average food (at extortionate prices) and having to cope with the rowdy noise in the central hall, I will be sure never to go back again. And what's with the plastic cutlery? Plastic may be fine on an aircraft, but not in a restaurant. And I'm sorry, but having constantly to fend off the next table guy's dogs wasn't that much fun either. There is a reason why dogs aren't normally allowed in restaurants. It's called hygiene.

I love going to the Boat Basin-- dogs are allowed, it's loud, the view is unreal (the Hudson) and great for people watching. Not a "nice" place at all (plastic utensils, etc.), but IDEAL for a nice sunny day. Plus a place where dogs can hang out too?! come on!!

The food is good, and creative. The drinks are great, and the enjoyment factor is the best. It's a surprise even to most New Yorkers that this great outdoor restaurant is waiting riverside. Enjoy!
