Enjoy New York by the water

If you are looking for a relaxing place with a great frozen drink and probably the best place to wander off the beaten path and feel like you are not in the city ,this is it. Grab a drink and then head out on the jogging path by the water, you won't regret it. I went in October and I can only imagine the summer months being amazing. Try it in the afternoon!

    nice place

I have been twice. The food is good, though kind of pricey for what you get. The service was wonderful both times, very attentive and thoughtful. Especially nice during the week for lunch, quiet with a great view and nice breeze.

    good place to celebrate

it was a no-brainer celebrating my birthday and graduation with 50 of my closest friends at the boat basin cafe especially because of its location in riverside park right next to the Husdon river. what great views! mike (the manager) and his staff took very good care of us. they set up two tents so we could have a private bartender and platters of food. the party was great fun and everyone had terrific things to say about the boat basin cafe. many hadn't been there before and expect to come back again soon.

    Great setting, Surprisingly Good Food

My husband and I dined here on Memorial Day for a late lunch. The restaurant was packed, but we were fortunate to be seated promptly. We live in the neighborhood and several friends had mentioned that the food/service were unimpressive so we were happy to find otherwise...Our server was attentive, the menu was larger and more diverse than we'd expected, and the food was fresh and very tasty. The view, of course, is lovely, and we were almost able to forget that we were in New York. There is a beautiful fresh breeze blowing through the restaurant and it is a lovely setting for an after-work gathering of friends, a late weekend lunch, or to stop after a run or bike along the river.

    Great afternoon lunch place!

This is our 2nd year going to the Boat Basin cafe after participating in a walk at Central Park. Our group of about 40 family/friends (including kids) enjoyed a late lunch at the Boat Basin Cafe. The service was great and the food good -it was wonderful to find a place that accomodated a big group, especially kids! Very casual atmosphere and fun! The weather was beautiful and we ended up spending most of the afternoon there! We plan to go back next year after the walk!

    No thanks

While the view and ambiance are impressive, the food and service ruined the entire experience. After twice being told that we could not be served because there were too many people seated at our table, when the food finally arrived it was disappointing to say the least. Everything ordered amounted to below-average "bar food."

    Dogs? What about kids?

For all of you complaining about having to 'deal' with the dogs, I have just three words: kids are worse! This restaurant is one of the few that allow owners to bring their dogs and have a wonderful relaxing time. I have had to deal with loud obnoxious kids at brunch all my life, and this restaurant is not different but at least I can have my dog with me. And if you have a problem with hygiene you should not be eating in a restaurant but cooking at home. Believe me the dogs are cleaner than 60% of the kitchens out there.
