    nice change

This is a pleasant change. I have been coming here for many years just to enjoy the atmosphere, and yes the food and service have always been below par, but I had a nice surprise yesterday. I stop in with a friend on a whim. We were seated right away, the waitress came up to us immediately to take drink orders then a food order after drinkes were delivered. My friend had the special burger with the applewood bacon, although he ordered it rare, ir came medium rare but was very good and the bun was a tasty bread, not a regular bun. I had the chopped salad with chicken, it arrived in a plasic bowl, but the chicken was moist and the salad had fresh berries. It was a good lunch with a beautiful view of the water and I certainly will go back again this summer. kudos, because I think they are stepping it up.

    Great Location Ruined by O'Neal's

Truly one of the absolute best bar atmospheres in Manhattan (if not the best), you feel completely removed and on vacation when here. That being said, the operator, O'Neals (by an open bid New York City contract)., does absolutely nothing to improve the experience. In fact, they almost ruin the spot. However, if you avoid the food, you can certainly relax and enjoy the reasonably priced drinks, albeit with poor service and general mismanagement. In sum, a great sport still worth going to despite O'Neal's incompetence (or disregard). Hopefully, the next time the contract comes up someone great will take over this diamond in the rough.

    Great water view & architecture

Great spot overlooking the Hudson River. Interesting location underneath a bridge (traffic circle actually) at the 79th Street Boat Basin - the ceiling supports and brick work are amazing, reminiscent of dining halls in French castles. The food is basic, but the view makes it a great place for a casual drink.

    Great location, subpar food!

I'm not sure why the menu is so limited and the food so bad. This restaurant has such a cool atmosphere it's such a disappointment that their food is subpar to put it nicely.

    Great Ambiance, Subpar Food

Not sure what the good reviews are talking about. The location and ambiance are probably the best in the city, and I rate the value high but only for the drinks which, for an outdoor bar (other than Blockheads) are reasonable. The food, however, is not good. I mean, I don't know how they do it, but everything they serve, from salads to burgers, is simply subpa, no better than school cafeteria food, and way overpriced to boot. Its disappointing that they manage to mess up even barbecued burgers, but rest assured they've found a way. Eat beforehand and go here for drinks.

Perfect Party Place... or Casual Hangout

What a beautiful party we had this past Saturday! The staff did a fabulous job. Our area was all set up when we got there Michael had everyone and everything ready to go... and the waiters were phenomenal! They couldn't have been nicer or more professional. And under very hot conditions (first day of the heat wave)! There were 70 people, eating, drinking, socializing, etc. Everyone commented on the excellent service... how truly good the food was... and of course, the incredible location! A great time was had by all. I'd highly recommend this venue and the services. Thanks to everyone for helping to make Cody's birthday bash a smashing success! Please note: I've been coming here for years to have lunch, dinner, drinks or just hang out and relax. It's one of those somewhat-secret finds that can transport you to another place... without the hassle of actually having to leave the city. The food is always good (best veggie burger around!) and you can't beat the prices or the views. We love the Boat Basin Cafe!

    terrible service, BORING menu

Great prices, great view. Subpar service. Our waiter, Steve, literally ignored us, I was shocked. A waiter in training helped us, thank goodness. The menu is super boring, it has so much potential. Its on the water, why not serve lobster rolls, fried clams, etc? And no french fries offered when its mostly burgers and hot dogs? Doesn't make sense. It also appears that ventilation for the grill area was not through out since we were all practically choking from the smoke.
