Desperate for healthier options
The little shop is beautiful (especially considering what these little walk-in places usually look like) and the menu is much larger than expected. I was offered a taste of the chickpea & spinach soup while I was browsing and immediately ordered it - it was delicious! The only drawback is that they are very slow - definitely not a good feature for a NYC lunch place. I'm hoping that will improve over time. I would definitely visit again.

Great Food, Poor Service & Customer Orientation
We were so glad when Bluedog opened to provide more variety for the neighborhood. The food is great, but alas, the people are not customer focused or friendly. Recently I phoned in a sandwich order and asked to pick it up in 5 minutes. When quizzed if I couldn't wait for 15 minutes, I said no as I had a conference call beginning. When I picked up the order, I got a lecture from the cashier about giving them more notice and making things so hard on the guys in the kitchen, as well as making the people in a long line wait longer to order. I've had no problems with other places in the area, including the Carnegie Deli, which is much busier. We all know that we place phone orders to AVOID waiting in lines. Additionally, I ordered a very simple sandwich: egg salad on toasted ciabatta. The experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I doubt that I'll return to the cafe. The staff has also often seemed overly harried and disturbed when the cafe is busy. I don't expect, when buying food, to put an establishment's needs before my own, since I am the customer.
