BBQ is an iconic, almost sacred, food. The Blue Smoke effort tasted like the sort of thing a coffee shop might offer as a "special" Except that a coffee shop Special might have been hot, the portions might have been larger, the price less irritating. I had pallid, dry, pulled pork humped artlessly on a piece of commercial white bread. What saved the meal was the staff - they were too sweet to complain to. Maybe this is how Blue Smoke gets away with it.

We have enjoyed eating here for years and like the place. Recently we have been turned away twice because the restaurant had been given over to private gatherings. I was told by a greeter that such will more-and-more be the case as the holidays approach. Sad to see a nice restaurant turning into an event space.

I'm in agreement with a prior reviewer who had to wait 40 minutes for food to come out at lunch -- I guess we were lucky, we only had to wait 35 minutes, which is a long time when you have to get back to work and the restaurant isn't crowded. When we asked the waitress to check after about 20 minutes, she came back to let us know "it shouldn't be long, they're putting your shrimp on the grill now ..." HUH?! Food was okay but service was beyond slow. Lots of smoke at Blue Smoke, but no fire under the servers ...

This place is a lot of fun for dinner with a group of friends. Order a bunch of starters to share, and explore the cocktail menu.

I am from Texas. I have eaten and cooked real BBQ for as long as I can remember. This is not it. The brisket was just that DRY. It is not supposed to be if cooked correctly! The real brisket was way too fatty! Again if it was cooked correctly it would not be so. The beans were ok but hey what can I expect from New York! The beer and just about everything else on the menu is way over priced. Brisket is a cheap cut of meat so 19 bucks for a plate is unacceptable! I was in NY to visit my friend who has been there for a few years. He told me that I was going to have the best BBQ ever. I literally slapped him in the face and told him to give up his man card when we left! Face it unless you grew up eating and cooking real BBQ you do not have a clue how it is done! Thumbs up for trying though!

I have been here many times and always enjoy the food. Tonight I took my 2.5 YO for an early dinner. Great variety for kids on the menu and the service could not have been better. They gave my son a cookie to decorate b/f his dinner and then brought it after for him to eat. This place also has one of the most underrated burgers in NYC. Will be back soon!
