Not recommended
I think blue ribbon used to import a lot of their fish from Japan as many popular sushi houses usually do, I won't lie they used to be pretty good. However, since earlier this year their fish quality has dropped to a point I can say it tastes like cheap sushi sold at a C grade Chinese sushi joint. They are ripping customers off with their cheap quality sushi. I recommend avoiding this place if you are taking someone out on a date or a business partner for something nice to eat.

Love this place
I am shocked at some of these reviews "ok sushi", "not that fresh" etc, You people wouldn't know good food if it hit you in the face. Yes this place is expensive but the sushi is of the highest quality, the sushi rice is perfection as is the fish to rice ratio. I have not come across a cheaper sushi restaurant as good as this place. Make sure you try a piece of king salmon sushi. Expensive but amazing!

Wayy overpriced for just OKAY food.
Seriously way overpriced for food that just okay. You can get some of the food for less than $10 at an asian supermarket, and they charge $30 (tastes the same). The only thing that was good was the spicy lobster roll.

Pretty good
The wasabi at this restaurant is grainy for one reason, it is real wasabi, the root vegetable you have to grate, not the tube ones that are smooth. And Japanese flavors are based on soy , sugar, sesame. This restaurant is good for their entrees and sashimi I would say because their fish is fresh. A lot of people end up coming to this restaurant not wanting to spend a ton of money, but the more you try to keep the budget low, the more unsatisfied you would be, because all you would be eating is sushi. Their "Dynamite" is really good, so is their steak carpaccio, fried and fresh oysters and their dessert dish that is yogurt/panna cotta with fruit.

Its alright but I'm not going back
I've been here twice. The best thing about the place is the soy sauce. It delicious. I was pretty dissapointed that they don't offer or have brown rice. The quality of fish is excellent, however, that last time I was there I ordered three pieces of salmon sushi and they brought me torro instead and tried to tell me it was salmon. Pretty insulting. Anyway, the ingredients are of a great quality however their wasabi is horrible. Its very grainy. I don't plan on going back.

completely over-priced and disappointing
We chose New Year’s Eve to try what was toted as one of Manhattan’s best sushi restaurants. It was one of those nights where you don’t watch the bill as much and order what you like as long as it’s delicious. This was a very disappointing experience. I’m not sure if the restaurant started out as something entirely different from what it has evolved into – but it was some of the worst sushi I’ve ever had – especially at an overpriced establishment. The service and atmosphere was lovely, but completely unmemorable after the ocean sushi we had. Mostly I remember that they gave us the wet washcloths when you came in – but it was the cold kind, which really sucks on freezing nights. The fish was completely undersized and completely flavorless. Here’s the kicker … we tried the California Roll with king crab. My boyfriend was in a fancy mood, which is the only way I could justify the $17.50, 6-tiny piece roll. (Note that there were 3 California options – regular, with blue crab, and with king crab. We sprung for the fancy because, he said, it was a special occasion.) Well … what the server called fresh, we called fresh out of the ocean. And by that, I mean the tiny piece of crab in the tiny rolled up rice tasted like it was rolled in the sand and dipped in the ocean. It was gritty, salty and disgusting. I challenge someone from Maine to taste this crab and not cringe. (I won’t even begin to think of Japan.) Overall I’m sure there is decent fish here – it just doesn’t seem like we selected any of it. The only roll we liked was the shrimp tempura – which also paled in comparison to any other place we’ve ever had it. Blue Ribbon Sushi is completely over-priced and one of the biggest restaurant disappointments in all of Manhattan.

decent, but theres better
in a party of 5 we sat in a very nice booth they called the best seat in the house...it was pretty cool it was unique and a good spot...the atmoshere is nice, it is a little tight, but its romantic and pretty classy. the service was good, he was very helpful and accomodating to what we wanted and how we wanted it...paid attention to detail. the sushi though was a little disappointing....some at our table thought it was awful, i gave it more credit...could have been fresher...a bit pricey overall for what we got and its quality
