    Great Find

Last weekend we were caught in the rain and found this new place a few blocks away from our hotel. They were very busy but assured us there would be a table coming up and made us feel very welcome. The sushi and service were excellent! Great find for a party of four stuck in the rain on a Friday. Lucky for us they squeezed us in.

    French Fries, Really?

I'm always excited to hit up a new spot especially when NY mag gives it a good review or another foodie couple finds and recommends. I was especially interested in Blue Elm as its cuisine was advertised as a trio: Asian, African, and French. Was this a new food trend or gimmick or would these three cultures be intertwined? Upon our arrival at Blue Elm, busy to the brims, I began to sensate from head to toe. After waiting for a table that was not subpar (they tried to put us right on top of the kitchen), we squeezed into the green leather banquet, ordered drinks and surveilled the menu. We ordered the fries to get us started. Why they were on the menu is still completely befuddling to me?Maybe that was the "French" aspect of the restaurant as there was no sight of a cheese plate, baguette selection, bouillabaisse, cassoulet, ratatouille or quiche on it's extensive SUSHI menu. The polished black chopsticks on the tables provided a clear giveaway that we were dining at yet another Asian "fusion" restaurant. Needless to say, the fish rolls were quite good; they would have been even more delectable if I the heat had not been blasting, and the service had not been detestable as we were asked to get up and move tables after our first entrees were finished. Apparently, the owner (scurrying about frantically), didn't foresee a table of eight hanging out at the bar and needing our space prior to seating us. The four desserts on the house did not really compensate for the moving and shaking of our tables and evening. Had we known we were schlepping downtown to primarily a sushi and Peking duck dinner we might have stuck to a go-to. Attention customers: skip this fusion triad (or so they say) and stick to a place that has worked out their kinks and relay on good customer service!

    Still working out the kinks

Went to dinner with my husband last weekend. It was a cozy restaurant and the waitstaff was very friendly. However, they sat us next to the open kitchen so we could actually see what was happening behind-the-scenes. Let's just say microwaving food was involved. It took way too long to get our entrees, though once we got them they were yummy. We didn't get the sushi - we should have - it looked awesome. Worth a try - though they are still working through some new restaurant issues...

    Foodies get ready

Was at Blue Elm last night, have to say that the space was small and we had to wait for while but the food and service was well worth it. Sushi was fresh and innovative. Glad I live down the block, we have been waiting a long time for an addition like this.

    Nice Surprise!

This place was excellent! The menu was interesting , the service was fantastic and the food was delicious. I was especially impressed with the sushi. I was just at Blue Ribbon Sushi last week and must say that this place is comparable for a lower price. The Kobe beef spring roll was really good as well. Our salad didn't look all that special but it was tasty. This is a must try in the neighborhood. I rarely rave about new restaurants but I really did like this place! The only bad thing was bottles of wine were a bit pricey - but the cocktail list looked good so that's an option.

Its a tad expensive - and a bouncer?

The food was ok. It wasnt bad, wasnt great. I think its a tad expensive. What i dont get is the need for a bouncer outside a 300 square food space. Is that really necessary?
