Blue 9 Burger
Posted by Junia on 03/15/2011
I lived in New York for 3 years and now that I've returned to Johannesburg for work, I miss Blue9 more than anything else. The burgers are always fresh, juicy and delicious and could be charged at twice the price they sell 'em for. You tried their milkshakes and health smoothies? Only the most quality ingredients used! I went to Blue9 about 3/4 times a week and I agree, it's not a 5 star establishment, but if you're into the good ol' American burger joint, that's exactly what it is, and it doesn't claim to be anything more.

Awesome burger, actually made well with good meat, juicy and leaves you wanting more.

Its been over 4 years of anticipation but I finally found the closest thing to a grilled cheese "animal-style" from In-N-Out. It actually serves as a worthy substitute--ie I don't miss In-N-out anymore!! "medieval style".Kudos on the mango chilli sauce.

Blue nine is delicious. Their burgers satisfy anytime night or day. Whether you're looking for a mid-day meal or a drunken bite, this is the place to go. My recent discovery is the lettuce-wrapped burger, which gives the burger a delicious crunch. Great fries, great shakes, great counter help, just great.

This place needs a renovation because it looks like a mess (peeling paint, chairs falling apart, etc.). The food is decent, but not worth a trip to the East Village. According to the awards hung on the wall, the accolades seem to have stopped in 2007, which isn't surprising given the recent visit.

Their signature Blue 9 Burger, a double cheese with lettuce and tomato, is very good. Similar to Shake Shack's burger, in my estimation. The fries are thin and crisp but WAY over salted. Ask for them with no salt, and salt them yourself. The restaurant itself is an uncomfortable dump, and not a dump with character, like an 11th Avenue dive bar, just cheap, tacky and uncomfortable: Hard, wooden benches and seats, a much-too-loud TV always on, and not nearly enough heat. And the service kind of rots too. The same person who takes orders in the restaurant is also on the phone with delivery customers. It may take a few minutes before you can even place you order. Anyway, the burger is top-notch, so get it delivered.

First time was ok, but second and last time, only one person woking.. taking orders at the register while cooking my food. As a result, the burger was burnt. sorry, no more.
