Expensive
This is a clean and attractive looking establishment. Wait staff are rushed and unfriendly; their main aim being to get you in, get your money and see your back. Food is ok; fair amount of choice, looks good but not tasty.

overpriced & mediocre
Had an hour to kill so dropped in yesterday, a Saturday, for a light breakfast only to learn that it wasn't possible. $10 minimum, the waitress said, "It's on the menu." Actually, the printed menu said $5 minimum. "Not on weekends -- it's brunch." As I'd already had tea (a tea bag on the side of strange-tasting water), and it definitely wasn't worth $10, I ordered an omelet It was huge with minimal flavor and arrived with mushy home fries. I ate less than half; it just wasn't good -- especially for a total of $16 with tip. Never again.

Unappetizing pastrami
Down in Grand Central area and used to stop by this place for a good sandwich so I figured I try it again. Wow, talk about going down hill. The most unappetizing pastrami sandwich I ever tried, in NYC of all places. Never again.

Delivery Issue
I just placed an order online... 10 minutes later I get a call telling me I am out of their delivery zone. Bloom's is on the corner of 40th and lexington... my office is on 44th and 5th ave... 6 small blocks is out of the delivery zone? Really! Where do they deliver to, the offices infront of their building? Damn shame

Negative
My hopes were high for this place, given its proximity to Grand Central Terminal, and because they are members of the Gluten-Free Restaurant Awareness Program and offer a full gluten-free menu. The decor is top notch. A visually beautiful place. Unfortunately, it all went downhill fast. It started with the waitress who started taking our order, had recorded one or two items, was asked if they still offered homefries at that hour (12:15pm) she left to find out, serviced two other tables, only to return several minutes later and ask us ... "are you ready to order?". My wife asked for 3 eggs over easy. She got 2 over easy and 1 over hard. My son ordered a "well done" burger only to get one that was rare in the center. So we gave it back to them. Mind you ... he had taken one big bite out of it so his germs were now on the burger. What did the kitchen do? Put the partially eaten burger on the grill, and return it to us well done. We found this unappetizing, not for us, but for subsequent customers. Don't know if it's a violation or not. The manager said it was not so I'll leave it at that. My son chose not to eat his burger; not knowing what else had been on the grill before his burger, regardless of how hot it is.

would not go back
Went here for lunch and felt very rushed by the waitstaff. Prices are expensive. Ordered the smoked salmon/Lox platter, and for a $20 plate, got a bagel that had the texture of a frozen supermarket bagel and stringy, "bits and ends" pieces of salmon. All in all, it was a poor experience, and I would not go back to this place again.

Beware of abitrary "included" service charge
I like to find comfortable diners on Sunday mornings where I can sit for a long while, eat slowly and read. I've walked by Bloom's many times and decided to try it as my nearby alternative is temporarily closed. Here is my review: - Sunday breakfast specials posted outside for sidewalk viewing cheaper than menu inside - No wait (good - never noticed a line waiting here before, anyway...) - Rigid menu choices, and the slightest deviation is several $ more from a la carte pricing - Waitress comes quickly after food served and multiple times again to check your reaction to the "Everything okay?" question. Your reaction might result in a service charge being tacked on to the bill, even if you are a small group (or one) and no disclosure of such provided beforehand. - Pancakes and 2 eggs with small orange juice almost $17 total. Why? A big service charge was written in on the bill (I asked for an explanation and was told it was a service charge). I pay at the register and notice that other patrons paying in line before me had no service charge. Mind you, I like Sunday morning diners, and leave healthy tips as a matter of habit. It's the arbitrariness and non-disclosure I'm against.
