Only go if you want to be insulted!
Boy has this restaurant sunk! And the management doesn't help.

Austria in Tribeca
Usually go here for lunch for that amazing 3course special,... But also Happy Hour, Birthdays or just because I'm in the mood for some consistent quality food. Blaue Gans never let me down on the food part. It appears that they are under new management and that arrogant dark hair gentleman seems to be gone... Nevertheless I enjoy my stays at the "Blue Goose" and will be return! Nice variety of Schnitzels, Sausages, Salads, and and and So far all of my dining friends found something tasty on the menu. The wine list and beers are fantastic, its hard to find good German wine in the stores, but so far I was never disappointed by the offers of this place.

usually very good
I have been here many times and I can say that usually the food is excellent and the service is so so to bad. Some of the waiters have attitude problems that have affected my enjoyment of the food, but generally, the service is quite good and there is nothing this authentic in the area. It is always worth the visit and since no one has mentioned it, I want to say that the breakfast menu is quite good as well.

Wonderful dining experience
I recently went to a family dinner party for about 25 people and the food and service were wonderful. They gave us a set menu to choose from and having tasted everything there was nothing that I can say was even below par. The food was delicious and I would go back any time. The service was wonderful and the must have deserts were the best. They make this mixed up apple pancake that is amazing and their apple strudel is as good as my grandmothers well almost. All in all a must try. Also nice casual atmosphere.

Nice Prixe Fixe Lunch
I ate the $20 prixe fixe lunch and I was very pleased. The food and service were good. The restaurant also has a very nice decor. The prixe fixe lunch comes with soup or salad, an entree and dessert. It is a relatively cheap way to taste what the restaurant has to offer.

Fress-Vergnuegen.
EXCELLENT!! I came here with my dad last week, we are both German (not by choice, but on passport) and since he was in town visiting from the Bay Area (Yes, we all live in the States now, and that is by choice), I thought I'd surprise him by getting some good, old country fare, as there are few, if any, good Austrian/German spots on the west coast. Anyway, I called the Restaurant from the cab on the way there around seven, and they were able to accomodate us immediately. I was expecting Blaue Gans to be the pretentious, yuppie, Tribeca hangout my friends usually convene in. You know, the kind of place where it's all about the vibe and the dishes are so far removed from what they are supposed to resemble, that you end up with some gross & ridiculous creations, a la Udon-Sea Urchin-Gulasch or Sashimi Rouladen in Hering Sauce. Fortunately, this proved not to be the case. We both started with some soup, the lentil for Papa and Beef Consomme for me. They were both superb. For my main dish I ordered the Suckling Pig (it was seared to perfection), which came with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts, both also very good. The portions were not very big, but I'll take quality over quantity any day, and this way I had room for dessert. I went with the special, sweet dumplings in a lemon rhubarb sauce. Exquisite!! I have not had Teutonic fare this good, since I went to the Schwarzwaldstube, in my native Baden-Wuerttemberg a couple of years back. And that place is a 19.5 on Gault Millau. Anyway, it was a very pleasant surprise, and I will definitely be going back if I'm overcome with Heimweh or just craving some pork. Fazit: Gut gemacht Kurt!
