Maybe an off night for B.I.B?
Black Angus meets Black & Tan’s at this Lower East Side nook, Black Iron Burger. Off the beaten path of burgers lies this miniature burger shoppe known for its selection of micro brews and its signature Black Iron Burger. There is nothing fancy on this menu but burgers, a couple of salads, sandwiches and fried green pickled tomatoes. After warming up with some Fried Tomatoes its on to the Black Iron. The B.I.B. is two thin patties topped with Horseradish Vermont Cheddar caramelized onions and a double order of fries (of course). Tonight this one looked a little better on paper as the flavors were not up to par. The burger beef was, for lack of better words, bland. The Horseradish cheddar was mild and I’ve seen better looking caramelized onions in my mother’s kitchen (she hates to cook).

Very mediocre
Nothing great abt these burgers, the falafel burger is not tasty at all. The only good thing is the double cheese burger. But the atmosphere was not appetising either.

A solid burger place
My friends and I try to visit a new burger place about every two weeks. I had read about Black Iron Burger and decided we should give it a try. I think the reviews are a little off here. True, the burgers aren't that big, but they are cheap. A bacon cheeseburger is only about $8.50, which is a few dollars less than many places we frequent. The burger itself was pretty good and the bacon very good. Nothing stellar overall, but it had a good taste to it and was cooked like I asked. The onion rings were amazing. They were the flaky greasy kind like they should be. I could have ordered an order of those by myself they were so good. We ordered the chicken wings as an appetizer and they were pretty tasty. A little kick to them, but nothing over the top. The value was good. Our server was great so we gave her a huge tip. All in all, a good burger place if you are in the area.

not good enough to be a one-trick pony
at first, i was delighted to see the place go in a block away from my apt. the design looks cool, the menu had some surprises (horseradish cheddar - mm!) and i figured if you are JUST doing burgers, they are going to be awesome. no. the griddle-cooked burgers are greasy, and not the good kind of greasy. onion rings are one even-more-greasy pile of untangleable friedy friedness. there is only one booth, and if you don't arrive at just the right time with just the right number in your party, you'll need to slouch on backless barstools at tiny two-person pubtables. if your party is three or four (or more) you got a bunch of awkwardly clustered tabletops. what's the trend with backless barstools when you are trying to eat? not good enough to be a one-trick pony.

mediocre
The burgers I've had have all been fairly tasty and cooked as I requested. The rolls are good and soak up the grease without falling apart (these are juicy/greasy burgers, but I like them that way, personally). I think the fries and onion rings are extremely good. Thin and crispy: the best kind, but also the kind that go soggy the fastest. I'm bothered by the no delivery. I think I'd order from here more often if there was delivery. It's not a comfortable place to go and sit and eat. It's small and all about the grill. I feel like I'm sitting in the kitchen the whole time. And I feel a little greasy afterwards. But I do sometimes call and place an order and pick it up on my way home. I live only a few blocks away. I wouldn't carry it otherwise because the food wouldn't survive without becoming a pile of mush. I like the afternoon $5 burger special, we pick them up and take them to the park for a good, solid afterschool snack. I don't love paying more than $5 though, because I don't think it's worth more than that.

Medium Raw? And a side of SHADE, please.
If you only do one thing, you should do that one thing VERY VERY WELL. Been here three times, and it has slid down hill with each visit. First time-- amazing! Burgers cooked perfectly, great wedge salad with a beautiful presentation, great service, cool space. Second time, frazzled waiter, burger smaller, and not as tasty, salad, smaller and very sad looking. Last time (and indeed, it will be the last time), was last night. I ordered medium rare and was given a cold, raw meat patty, with a brown top and bottom. This after having a conversation not ONLY with the bar tender/waiter, but also with the chef, who had been called away from his station by the bar tender to confirm that medium rare is indeed that traditional MEDIUM rare. You know, why would I ask if it weren't such a concern? Both the chef and the bartender seemed irritated with my question. And I was like DUDE-- if you are burger afficiandos, all you ever want to DO is talk about burgers! When I asked to have the burger put back on the grill, I got some shade from both BT and chef. I had a better cheeseburger at the Remedy Diner last week, at half the price, and twice the size. Again, if this is ALL you are going to do, do it WELL. DONE!

just ok
Just ok. Went for lunch. Good draft selection. Fries were crispy and well salted. Fried tomatoes were odd - I like pickled tomatoes, I like fried things... I cant say that I enjoyed the combination. The burgers were well cooked however the burger to bun ration was too low despite being a very good brioche seeded bun. Many other better options in the neighborhood for a better burger.
