I've lived in Fort Greene for 3 years, and this place has become my natural go-to joint when people want to eat out for dinner. The place is small and intimate, the staff is consistently polite, and, thanks to a BYOB policy, you can pair your affordable meal with an equally affordable bottle of Yellow Tail. And the food is delicious and comes in hefty portions that are ideal for sharing. The shrimp pizza is a garlic-lover's dream, the hummus is smooth and smokey, and the pita is so soft and fluffy that you might want to roll yourself in it and take a nap. I highly suggest you give this place a go.

We were so excited to eat there.... but, sadly, the Black Iris disappointed with mediocre baba ganoush, inedible hummus, sad baklava, and mystery gyro. Their Pita is delicious - fresh and fragrant, but it turns stale and hard in a mere 5 minutes. The shish and salad are delicious - the stars, but after suffering through wallpaper paste hummus, watery tahini, and finishing off with dry and stale baklava we realized it's about the little things. In a city with fantastic middle eastern cuisine i find it hard to understand what everyone raves about.

I love Black Iris and probably order delivery at least once a week. The food is great - my favorite is the Shish Kebab and the hummus. I really like everything though.

I used to order from this place all the time and it was pretty good, but not good enough that I didn't just kind of forget about it. I'm so glad I remembered and tried them again. I just got the chicken gyro and a side of falafel balls. The gyro, at $7, is so big and fresh and tasty! The falafel are big, fluffy, hot and spicy! Non-greasy, delicious comfort food at a very reasonable price! I have lunch and dinner for $10 before tip!! Highly recommended!

I've ordered the chicken kebab and chicken gyro platters about 6 times in the past two weeks. Inexpensive, delicious, large portions. I have not eaten there, only ordered. The baba is wonderfully smokey, the pita's are freshly baked and are superb. The chicken ouzi is really the only other thing I tend to order, and it doesn't quite compare to the ouzi from Cafe Moustache in the East Vil. but is otherwise good.

we love black iris. we eat in at least once a month, and get take out several times more. the staff is friendly and attentive. they're very kid friendly, and recognize and greet our son not only when we dine in, but often when we walk past on the street. the lentil soup is great, combo salad (choose 5) yummy, and hummus wonderfully smoky tasting. a neighborhood gem.

I first started eating here 4 years ago. When I moved out of the area, I missed the food! Now that I live here in Clinton Hill again, I have to say that I order delivery from Black Iris almost once a month. It is the delicious, fresh, fresh salads and the incredibly flavorful vegetarian options that I favor. However, the chicken gyro is also super fresh and great. I have never ever been unsatisfied. And the food isn't greasy at all. You finish feeling pleasantly full and satiated.
