Authentic in the poorest way
I lived in the middle east. This is authentic in the poorest way. If you go to the wrong place you're afraid to eat the meat and the only thing edible is the bread and the hummus. This was the case with Black Iris. The lamb wasn't grilled, more like fried, tasted gamey, as lamb can, and also like fish, which lamb shouldn't. The chicken? Same story -- fishy, oh and also undercooked. the bread is great. the hummus? no flavor at all.

Zataar bread
The zataar bread is amazing - perfect amount of zataar and crunchiness. YUM! Very friendly servers and an overall good vibe.

I liked it
The food is good, the prices are good and the staff are very easy going. I couldn't finish all my food. The portions are big.

consistently good and cheap
I've been going there for years - still don't understand why it's never busier. It's one of the best deals in this neighborhood for sure. The food is consistently good enough if you know what I mean. I have never been disappointed (and will never be wowed, but for $10 for dinner, don't expect to be). Love the spinach and chickpeas.

Pass Me the Hummus
I've lived in Fort Greene for 3 years, and this place has become my natural go-to joint when people want to eat out for dinner. The place is small and intimate, the staff is consistently polite, and, thanks to a BYOB policy, you can pair your affordable meal with an equally affordable bottle of Yellow Tail. And the food is delicious and comes in hefty portions that are ideal for sharing. The shrimp pizza is a garlic-lover's dream, the hummus is smooth and smokey, and the pita is so soft and fluffy that you might want to roll yourself in it and take a nap. I highly suggest you give this place a go.
