Great food and atmosphere
Been here several times - love the food, drinks and atmosphere but the service couldn't be more consistently disappointing. I'll definitely go back (especially on nights they have live jazz) but will anticipate a long wait and minimal service.

Super welcoming & accommodating to us
My friend & I share close B-days & came here to have a birthday dinner. Walking in, there is a cozy lounge & pretty fireplace to greet folks. We were joined by a 3rd friend who had spoken w/waitress B4 we got there to share that it was our B-days & also mention my friend needs a quiet table due to a hearing challenge. In honor of our B-days, the waitress told our friend she would get a rose & then strewed the petals on our table. This was a lovely surprise awaiting us at our (quiet) table. We found it a wonderful & special touch. The waitstaff made other food & beverage accommodations that were quite considerate & meant a lot to us. We decided to do the pre-fixe. Our tantalizing old-fashioned strawberry shortcake dessert came complete w/B-day candles. The 2 B-day gals found the food delicious--our 3rd friend found it OK. All in all, we were quite pleased w/the evening & a nice way to mark our B-days.

The last review.....
To the last reviewer.... why would a manager want their customers beaten up... did you not say, "they came out and calmed down the situation?" I have eaten there and if anything the staff and management there are very polite to all the guests, that's what I have seen.

Nothing to Write Home About
Food was subpar - ordered pasta and the noodles came out far from al dente. In addition they seemed short staffed, they didn't seem to have a host or hostess, and it wasn't the easiest getting service which normally isn't too much of a problem unless you experience an altercation with sidewalk passerbys. Some guy from the street was thrown onto the outdoor table beside us sending the poor lady's entree, drinks, table and chairs flying. Then these street guys started fighting whereupon we all had to move out of the way. You would figure for such a small restaurant the waitstaff and manager would be out there right away with all the commotion. While they eventually did come and calm the situation down, our dining experience was ruined, and the manager appeared non-chalant and unconcerned for his guests which was best summed up when he said "don't worry everybody, we aren't charging for the show"

Lovely Restaurant
Service was best we've had in a while. Waitress was very nice. There was 3 in our party- Bro had crabcake appy and waisabi tuna-Said all were excellent-Husband had steak & fries- he said sirloin was perfect. I had price fixed.-Lovely salad, meaty fish and for dessert a delicious, flakey Eng. crumpet with cream and cranberry jelly. We had 2 gl. wine and one ice tea and bill was only $135. Only drawback was restaurant was a little dim-romantic however I wasnt on a date. Idefinately would return when I'm in the neighborhood

Happy Hour
My wife and I visited the Black Duck last week - the prices on Happy Hour certainly have changed since last December - drafts now $4 - the $5 cocktails now $9 and the $6 martinis are $11 - to be fair I must mention you can now get a glass of the "house" red or white wine for $5

Count the Cost
The ambiance is nice. The facade of the restaurant is very indiscreet and the interior makes you feel like you've entered a very elitist type of place (although admittedly the majority of the patrons being comprised of an elderly caucasian crowd had much to do with this). The host and waiter were hospitable and friendly and made us feel comfortable right away. As a recent college graduate, I was not used to the prices but I understand that an entree priced at $21-31 is considered decent for an upscale restaurant. We had the wasabi tuna ,which was pretty good, and the halibut which was moist and delicious. We also had the calamari to start which could have been more crispy on the outside. I was tempted to go "cheap" and order the $16 burger but if I wanted a good burger I would've gone somewhere else for half the price. If you come here you want to get seafood and you want to make sure that you don't mind paying a little bit extra for a good meal and for the high class environment. If you want to impress someone for less than a $100, bring them here.
