Bistro Les Amis

Regular atmosphere but not snobish, we were welcome and were not rushed despite being late for lunch. Unfortunately lot of dishes have garlic... big plates, large portions. Chicken paillard was good, seafood penne pasta with wine sauce was amazing. My friend said she had an ORGASMIC experience with short chocolate souffle, what can I add?

We had a reservation at another French restaurant on Thompson st. We walked out after we were giving an attitude by a their French host. We stopped by bistro les Amis and they were able to accomodate us without reservation. We had an amazing foie gras for appetizer, and for dinner we had cassoulet and steak Frits. Over all we had a very good dinner and we were full so we passed on desserts. Definitely will be back?

Went to this restaurant last night based on the excellent reviews and left disappointed. The place is nice and quaint and the service was excellent but the food was not up to par. Had the steak frites which was a basic shell steak that was overcooked, tasteless and tough with lots of fat. The fried were good. The creme brûlée was not. The filet mignon was average. The escargot was way too oily and garlicky (and i love garlic). The fried calamari was chewy. Overall i would not recommend this place to anyone and will not come back.

Loved the ambiance. Good food. Good service. Friendly owner. Appropriate prices. So what else is there? We'll be back.

After many restaurants recently with poor service, this restaurant was a breath of fresh air. My husband and I took his parents to dinner here last night. I was there 15 minutes early. The host had no problem seating me, bringing me a sample of wine and bread, and not bothering me at all about when the rest of my party would arrive. Our food was very yummy. My father-in-law, who is usually very chatty and critical, was quiet during the entire meal because he enjoyed it so much. Our waiter was extremely nice, our water, coffee, and wine were filled quickly. My only complaint was that there was no list for glasses of wine, only bottles, so I had no idea how much the wine I ordered cost until I got the bill. We will definitely come here again!

Asked for French Onion soup, light with cheeze, got it. Asked me how I wanted my salmon cooked (that never happens), said MR, got it. Everything we had, the calamari, the soup, the salmon, the halibut, the apple struddle, everything was fantastic. The service was excellent in most ways. i spilled the water and by the time the glass hit the table a server was there to dry the area. The only area of weakness was at the end. We were in no hurry and neither was the waiter. Another server came over and took our desert order. It seemed like a family run restaurant in that way. Very friendly, easy atmosphere. BTW, the Bread is outrageous...careful, it'll ruin dinner. We will definitely be back, and we will bring friends.

Sat outside with a friend at dusk. We split the mussels. Very tasty! After, we went on to the roasted duck breast and hanger steak. Both were so good, we shared them too. Cooked perfectly medium rare. Finally a place that understands what mediumm rare means. The service was amazing. From the second we were approached we felt welcome. Not a pretentious person on the staff (my pet peeve). We both had a very relaxed ending to a pretty stressful day, and never felt rushed. Our bill came to under $100 WITH a bottle of wine. I will be sure to come back and take advantage of the sidewalk cafe before it gets cold again. Thompson St is just busy enough for some good people watching. Looking forward to bringing family here over the holidays too!
