    Delicious Steak, Pleasant Atmosphere

My wife & I have eaten here over the years for brunch, lunch, and dinner and find the food to be consistently good esp. the steak. It compares favorably to standards like the Palm The Old Homestead, and the quality far exceeds the newer so-called boutique steak houses that have sprouted up over the years like T-Bar and Parlour (the later of which is just plain bad in our opinion). The sauces are also very good and despite Sam's myopic review the mashed potatoes are also very good as are the rest of the sides. While not hip, the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, and the service is quite good. We recommend Bistro Le Steak without hesitation.

    Good Steak

Space is tight at this busy upper east sider, especially on a warm Saturday evening in Spring. But a reservation will get you a nice table by the open window of the enclosed sidewalk cafe. The menu, as the name suggests, mixes French bistro fare with some steakhouse classics and offers a nice variety from which to choose. We started with the warm goat cheese tart served with roasted tomatoes on top and drizzled with olive oil. Rich and delicious. For slightly lighter fare, the beet & goat cheese salad was perfectly dressed and seasoned. It was a special that we were told makes a frequent appearance and which we'd happily have again. For entrees, we tried the New Zealand lamb served with mashed potatoes. Tasty but average and the sauce didn't add to the dish. The filet au poivre with pommes frites, however, was exceptional. Perfectly cooked meat, luscious creamy peppercorn sauce and hot crispy shoe string fries. A bit rich after the goat cheese tart but worth it. Dessert, unfortunately, disappointed. The valrhona flourless chocolate cake sounded too tempting to pass up but what arrived, though generous, was dry and difficult to eat. Service was fast, friendly and efficient and, dessert notwithstanding, we'd go back for that steak.

    Great!

I went for my first time to this restaurant two weeks ago. I am pretty new in New York and I was lucky to find very nice place. The food was really good I had onion soup as appetizer and Shell Steak with mashpotatoes and some vegetables as main course. The server (a french guy) recommened me a very lovely syrah from Califormia. All in all it was a very good experience and I strongly recommed this place.

    Very good delivery

Ordered delivery from here twice in the last month. Food was great and delivery was quick. Had the steak, lamb, and the salmon and all were good.

    subpar steakhouse

In search of a lesser expensive dinner restaurant, I found Bistro Le Steak off of Menupages. While walking there, I began to have doubts at the area it is in... not a very classy place in the city for a 'steakhouse.' We sat in the outer part of the restaurant, which was narrow and hard to maneuver around all the guests and servers. The onion soup WAS good - and very filling. The by the glass pinot noir was also good. However, the twice roasted duck was unappetizing. It was dry and tough, and took more than a minute to chew each piece. the mashed potatoes where grainy and unpleasant. the roasted pear was not as good as it should have been. My girlfriend said the shrimp was decent, but nothing special. Maybe we should have gotten steak since it was a 'steakhouse', but I can't imagine it would have been very good. My opinion: stay away from this place. Even though it is relatively inexpensive, it is noy worth the money. If you want t a good dinner, spend the extra money and go to a respected and recommended place.

    We enjoyed it!

We ate here last night in spite of some reviews on this page that might have sent us elsewhere. We were pleasantly surprised - it was a good piece of meat, an good bowl of French onion soup and a substantial salad. Expensive for a 3rd Avenue eatery but inexpensive for a steak house.

    Wonderful

This restaurant is wonderful. I've been there 5 times in the last month and the steaks have all been cooked perfectly to my desire except one but they were more than happy to take care of it for me. Dont forget every restaurant is different and they all have differenet interprutations about the different tempuarture. Anyways the food is great the service is great, very attentive, the hostess is very welcoming and the manager is very polite and respectable. The decor is a little old but this place has been around for 10 years or so now so it is alittle old. The bartender is also very friendly. Its the perfect retreat from a busy day at the office. It might be a little noisy but that the point. If you want quite find another restaurant, its as simple as that. Take it for what it is. Got to check it out.
