Disappointing Experience
I recently went to Bistro Chat Noir as part of a party of six. I expected to have a nice dinner and to be able to have a conversation, and this seemed like a place where I'd be able to do so. Instead, a group of about 20 people next to us were having a raucous birthday party, making it virtually impossible for us to hear anything. When we finally complained to the restaurant staff, they said there was nothing they could do. Just letting you know what you are potentially letting yourself in for at this restaurant.

Beautiful
We are so grateful this restaurant opened in our neighborhood. The decor is fabulous and so was the service. Loved it!

Welcome Home!
The Latapie Trademark stroke again! Suzanne saved all of us in the neighbourhood by opening this warm, simple and elegant place. Far from anything ordinary, prepare yourself to discover new food association done in a classic manner. How do they do it? I don't know, but this is one of the facets of what I call "The Latapie Trademark". Last night, I had my ravioli porcini a la carbonara, rich, tasteful, which I am now officially sooo hooked on...Delicious!! Then, mussels...Imported from France. Generous. Tender. Wait...am I describing mussels??! well, yes... it just comes from the heart!! My compliments to the Chef. I have to warn those who would pick "L'ile flottante" for desert, they just might fall off the banquette with an attack of moaning...! Enjoy.

Charming and delicious
Good service made this delightful Bistro very relaxing in a busy area. I loved the food and felt well cared for. I am happy to recommend Chat Noir.

Not recommended
My friend and I came here expecting a nice birthday dinner based on reviews. What we got was over-salted food prepared in a distinctly non-French manner. When our waiter asked how our meal was, we tried to tell him as politely as possible that it was not very good. Instead of offering us another option or even a partial refund, he argued that the food was fine. Maybe you'll enjoy your dining experience here, but beware; ours was not good. We were surprised. Fortunately, there are other options for great French food in the city - we love French food but can't go back to Chat Noir.

Excellent service!
If you're in the area, stop by this quaint French bistro for a quick bite. You won't be disappointed. For starters, I had the Potage (French Onion) then went on w/ the Steak Frites (Roquefort) w/ a glass of Bordeaux and finished it off w/ A La Poire. Overall, I give high marks but the service was just outstanding.

A winner!
A little bit of Paris on the Upper East Side. Not an overly ambitious menu at the moment, but what is served up is very well prepared indeed. Staff is attentive, helpful, accommodating, the decor spare but comfortable, and the tab, for this location, is as satisfying as the food.
