    Shocking rudeness!

We went to this restaurant with high hopes of a nice French meal in a cosy bistro environment - which, to be fair we got BUT upon leaving the Manager or Owner approached our table and told us that if we intended to leave a tip of only the change we got from our check payment we would be totally out of order. Shocked we added some more money - we then left and walked down the street - THE MANAGER FOLLOWED US OUT DOWN THE STREET -faced up to us and told us we are rude and should be embarrassed -also that he would tell all his restaurant owner friends that we if we went in their restaurants he would make sure we would be embarassed. This threat and behaviour is totally disgusting - this man should not be in the customer sevice industry. Having read other reviews, it seems that this is not the first time he has done this. My advice is avoid this restaurant -there are plenty of others on the Upper West Side!

    Lousy attitude and mediocre food

I ordered white eggs with salad on the side, and I got the eggs with a few slice of tomatoes and a couple of lettuce leaves.(worth than a basic diner). Then, I was charged for the Brunch special...$20 (Yes, I did get a lousy Mimosa, which I didn't care for) When I indicated to the owner that it wasn't communicated to me properly that this is what I'm going to be charged for, and that the meal wasn't worth more than a few bucks, he told me , arrogantly, that this is how they do business. To top it off, the waitress was complaining about the (generous) tip that I left her. Really bad karma.

    Very authentic

I dine here whenever I am in NYC. I have always found the service to be about average for NYC. The menu is varied and authetic. Most of the chefs are French. I would think I was in Paris is it were not for the larger, American sized portions. Some of the dishes are excellent, some not so good. I always ask my server for a recommendation and have never had a meal that I did not enjoy.

    Some great dishes

Say what you want. I have been there 30 times. If you order right it's as good as anywhere. Mussels are great. I would argue the lamb chops and the burger are the best in NY. Duck is excellent as well as the chicken. Steak Tartar very good also. Not as good with fish.

    Rude service kills

satisfactory (but very fully priced) food. Waiters and owner/manager share an attitude problem. If they do not think that you are treating them with adequate respect, courtesy, you will hear about it. There is truly a problem of role reversal here. Best to avoid this place. It will not give you a comfortable, satisfied feeling unless your expectations are very low.

Don't Be Fooled By Outer Appearance

My boyfriend and I went for brunch and it had to be the worst we've ever had. I ordered an omelette and my boyfriend ordered eggs benedict. The food looked like it was cooked four hours beforehand. The food arrived cold and I was skeptical to touch much of my omelette because it looked like it was languishing around the kitchen. The hollandaise on my boyfriend's eggs benedict looked like it had congealed and I was scared he'd get sick since he was too hungry to be discerning. To make the experience worse, the waiters were stoic, inattentive, and altogether incompetent. My boyfriend and I had to remind them about five times that we both ordered coffee and orange juice. Recurrent coffee service should be second nature to a brunch/breakfast server. At eighteen dollars per person for brunch, such poor quality food and service are unacceptable. It was a major dissapointment to say the least. The interior of the restaurant is cute and charming, but the management needs to get a clue here. Overpriced stale food and poor service will never get far, especially in tight economic times like these. Judging by the reviews on this site here, I don't seem to be the only one who felt this way.

I know this place as well as anyone

I live nearby and have been here maybe 15 times. I don't know if the brunch is any good, that menu didnt appeal to me much. But the food at dinner is excellent and great value. The steak (esp Au Poivre) and chicken are first rate. Seafood is good. Apps are also first rate. Anybody can have a bad experience at a restaurant once, but I have found this place to be extremely cosistent and high quality..esp for a reasonable place.
