    Great discovery!

I walked by Cassis after the restaurant I was planning to go to was booked up. It's really charming. Excellent food (lamb shank perfectly prepared), wonderful service and very reasonable price for the quality. I will be going back. Highly recommended. New York City does it again!

    Great French Bistro!

This little gem surpassed all expectations for culinary excellence, service, value and ambiance. It's one restaurant in NYC I will return to time and time again.

    Delightful find after the movies

Walking up columbus ave after film festival at Lincoln center we were looking for a quiet place that two adults and teenager could all enjoy dinner. So happy we found bistro casis. Very pretty place, excellent food and very pleasant waiter. We had a lovely dinner!

    Great Food, Subpar Service

The food was terrific, but the waiter was inattentive and argumentative. He first forgot one of our appetizers. He then forgot one of our desserts and claimed we had not ordered it. He was so rude that people at the next table came to our defense, telling him they had heard us place the order. We normally would have tipped 20% but left 10% instead with a note that the service was disappointing.

    Not recommended

They charged for bread. Went with a friend after ballet- about 10:30 PM- so only a few tables. Ordered a bottle of wine to end the evening. We later asked for some bread & we were told there was none left. Two minutes later another table was served bread. A group of four waiters had to congregate to decide to then give us bread. The bill came- they charged us $10 for bread without telling us and refused to take the charge off. They wouldn't even tell me the managers name. FYI- lived in nyc for 7 years & never posted anything. Its the principal, not the 10 bucks.

Tip well or get chased up the street

Just returned from holiday in NYC - had a fantastic time with absolutely no issues.... apart from lunch at Bistro Cassis. The food was ok but nothing to write home about, our waiter was fairly inattentive, but that was ok also - He appeared to wake up & come to life a little later. A light bite to eat/drinks for four @ Usd 83 isn’t cheap in my book (not by UK standards anyway) however we paid our bill in cash & as customary in NY left a tip ... OK the tip wasn’t the biggest we had left, however Usd 5 plus various change was worthy of the food/service received. The waiter took the payment and returned to our table strongly reminding us that is customary to tip between 15 & 20 per cent in NYC. He had the cheek to pocket the change & return the Usd 5 tip with the payment check! Well if this guy thought he was going to pressurise 4 from Liverpool UK into digging deeper into our pockets via this method, he must have been on a different planet.. He was lucky we didn’t pocket the 5 dollars.... Anyway we didnt & made a hasty retreat out of the bistro only to be followed up the street by this waiter (maybe he was the owner?) demanding more of a tip ... this was absolutely disgraceful & we told him so..... We wondered what part of "discretional" he didn’t understand... Any way we left him fuming on the sidewalk like a jilted Gaston. I truly wish I still had that five dollars ... An appalling state of affairs, so please be warned!

    One of my favorites

I come here once every few months with my family. We love it. The host always finds us a table quickly and we really enjoy the food. This is not supposed to be a fancy restaurant -- they serve basic, well-made French bistro classics. In particular, we love the bread, the butter and pate' they serve with it, the french fries and the mussels. For the main dish, we try to order something different everytime. I highly recommend this restaurant.
