Hit or miss
The restraunt definitely has a cool decor starting from the old alblum covers now used as menus and plenty of candles. The zucchini and goat cheese appetizer was first rate, the rabbit leg on parpadelle pasta was sub-par. Excellent wine list by the glass

Not recommended for a meal
We went here for a romantic dinner - the ambiance was great, but the food was not. The menu was misleading - my boyfriend ordered a Rabbit Ragu, which ended up being bland pasta with a rabbit leg on top. This was not what we expected - and my Farfalle dish was less than flavorful. While the staff was very courteous about removing my boyfriend's dish from our order, we left disappointed and hungry. This place is nice if you want to grab a glass of wine in a romantic atmosphere, but I would not come here for a meal.

Comfort at dinner
When sitting down to eat with so many others in a small room one would think to feel closed in. Not at Bistro 61! You want to be part of the crowd. No rush, take your time and enjoy your food. how do you discribe the food? One word will do, yummy...

Ca c'est tres bien!
After searching around here for good french bistro fare, I decided to give Bistro 61 a try for delivery. I was greatly pleased. The food arrived promptly, still warm, and the portions were ample - especially the mussles (the "Large" came in two 9" aluminum pie tins brimming with black shells). The buillabase was so good that it stunned my Parisien step-father. The frites were delectably spiced. The tarte aux poireaux was more like a quiche than an onion tarte; nevertheless, after letting others taste it, I had to fight for the last bite. The shrimp (Les gambes flambees) were... well, I cannot express it in any way other than YUMMY. The pricing is typical of UES restaus. (I live on Park Ave - they charged a delivery fee for the distance, but assured me that it was going to the delivery person, NOT THEM. If such a thing is an issue, ask if you will be charged when ordering). The only actually negative thing I can say is that I wish there were more of a selection in respect to their menu. I have ordered from them three times since, and have been consistently pleased. Not OHMYWETPANTIES good... but quite good. Good enough that they are now my sole choice for livraison francaise [french delivery]. I recommend.

Bistro
Cozy and warm with delicious food. I have been going to this place since the beginning and the food gets better and better. The staff is exceptionally friendly and sincere. The place is finally starting to get very busy - what took everyone else so long to figure it out!

Great Neighborhood Bistro
My wife and I have been their many times. We always experience high quality food preparation and friendly, professional service. The other night I had a cod special with chorizo that was fabulous. The wine selection is only adequate, but I'm hopeful. We eat out often, and Bistro 61 is one of our favorites.
