I can't believe that some people claim that the mac and cheese or the ice tea aren't made from scratch. I have been coming to Birdies for two years now and I have never been disappointed. From the okra to the mashed potatoes to the fried green tomatoes, the sides are delicious. I love their chicken and keep meaning to try the veggies options, but can't bring myself since I love the chicken so much. Plus, the owners are great. Next time you're in ask to read the children's book they wrote about starting the place. It's the sweetest thing ever! If you're missing home and need some home made food Birdies is the place.

I have been going to Birdies since around when it opened and I have never been disappointed. I am surrounded by great chicken places up in Harlem but I always need my Birdies fix. The fried chicken, okra and mac n' cheese are always my favs but I have to save room for some of the veggie chicken nuggets! I am no vegetarian but they are better than the real thing in most restaurants! And the banana pudding is some of the best in the City! It is one of the few places where I can say that I like EVERYTHING on the menu. Small but homey. If you can't fit in, grab something to go and head to the park for a picnic!

Burnt and oily..Correction old oil!! I was so excited to have a "home made" fried chicken place so close to me. So disapointed!! The only think I could taste was the very old oil. As for the mashed potatos there was no seasoning. Bland Bland Bland. I am gonna stick to Mammas

I was so disappointed by this place. From the outside, and the name, it seems so cute and you'd expect the chicken to be good. But it was actually terrible. I ordered the chicken sandwich that was supposed to have been marinated in some special marinade (it wasn't), supposed to be on a sesame bun (it wasn't), supposed to have a special mayo (it didn't) and it was supposed to have cilantro (it didn't). It was a very dry chicken breast with plain mayo, one leaf of lettuce and it was on a dry deli style roll. If it had been described as such on the menu I would not have ordered it. Also the mac and cheese was obviously Kraft mac and cheese out of the box. And the homemade "southern iced tea" tasted very much like Nestea. It just really makes me mad when a restaurant thinks you won't know the difference so they intice you with witty descriptions on the menu and then serve you something completely different. In other words, I do not recommend this place. Which is too bad because it looks so cute.

Birdie's, you've smited me for the last time by taking that smothered chicken off of the vegetarian menu. I haven't had you in months because there is nothing for me to order of the same caliber. Last summer you fed me blue in the face; this summer? You took it off, I am starving. I loved to get me a big ass order of veggie smothered chicken and those delectable fries; then get naked and bathe in it. Now? I die. Vegetarians are not worthy of smothering? Great lemonade, more veg smother.

I wouldn't expect the fake chicken to be any good, so no big surprise there. Birdies has fantastic fried chicken and the jerk chicken is quite good also. I'm not a fan of their baked or lemon pepper chicken. The mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and mac&cheese sides are also quite good. Chicken is a good value but the sides are overpriced. Lastly, they will deliver fairly far west, all the way to 6th ave!
