    First Time Visit....

The first thing that caught my eye as I walked by with my son was the sign for milkshakes and that old 50's look. It immediately made me want to walk right in, and so we did. The service was great! Our waitress always had a freindly smile on her face, the atmosphere was really cool and clean. We ordered burgers and I was really surprised to see that tater tots were also on the menu. They were the best we ever had. The milkshake was great and not watered down. My son was pleased and we will return. I'd also like to comment on the wonderful music they play that you don't often hear on the radio anymore, and those really cute "Big Daddy Shirts".... We loved them and I can't wait to purchase one for myself. I am glad to have this diner so close to home and I can't wait to have breakfast there too. I think the cereal boxes over the entrance adds a really nice touch, the cool ceiling, and the pictures on the walls. The plastic container we packed our tots in afterwards was really sturdy and made it back home safely. We liked packing up my own doggy bag. We are grateful to have a diner like this around. Thank you!

    Pleasant surprise

I thought this place was going to be disappointing as I read several good reviews in Time Out and NY Mag, but I was pleasantly surprised. The service was great, our waitress made some very good suggestions and the food was classic southern fair done well. The fact they had tater tots won me over at first glance of the menu. My husband who tries a milkshake whenever he can said it was one of the best he's had. Meanwhile, being a pastry chef, I was happy w/ their dessert selection and enjoyed their chocolate cake. I'd go again and again!

    Blue Plate Special Heaven

Stopped in last month for a quick bite. For 2 pm it was still busy and we had to sit at the counter. We ordered the Honey Dipped Fried Chicken with fries, and it showed up with tater tots instead. The chicken was a bit pricey at $12 but it was the best fried chicken I had ever eaten. All four pieces were crisp, moist and nicely seasoned. My friend had the open Ruben and it wasn't very good. This is NYC! almost every corner diner can do a good Ruben, but not Big Daddy. They'd be smart to take it off their menu along with the tater tots.

    All Show, No Substance

This place has a great 50's look to it and we came in expecting to be pleased. I took my two daughters here for a Sunday breakfast and got indifferent service and mediocre food - but big portions. The order was screwed up twice and neither kid got what they asked for. When we were ready to go, I asked that they wrap up the food. The waitress then handed me a container so that I could wrap up the french toast myself. We haven't been back.

    Good for what it is

I stopped by late on a Sunday nite to grab a hotdog to go and the staff was friendly and attentive. $8 for a huge dog and tater tots might be a tad expensive but they are right on Park Ave and the quality of food was pretty good. Tots were crispy and salty and the relish on my Dodger dog was tasty. Decor is a little corny but has some kitschy items from days past like old cereal boxes and toys.
