    Don't bother.

So I've been here several times, and I don't think I'll ever go back. I've tried to like this place because I'm a sucker for those fun, retro themed, theme parky restaurants but this particular one unfortunately has way too many flaws for the atmosphere to make it worth your while. As far as food, I can only discuss the burgers, fries, tots, shakes and chicken fingers because that's all I've had, but I'm sure most people go to this kind of place for that kind of stuff. The food is mediocre at best. Very soggy bottom bun, clearly a frozen patty, way to much meat for the size of the buns..just not good. In New York, I'm surprised a burger like this even survives. Fries and Tots were ok..kind of soggy on the inside, little burnt on the outside. Not my kind of fries. (Again..goodburger rules and same for the shakes.) Now for the service... It's slow, the employees seem very rushed and bothered by the customers, just subpar service in general. Oh and a huge faux that I noticed both times I was here the waiter stood next to me as I signed the check, and I'm a good tipper because I know what it's like but you should never do that as a waiter. I must say it is fun looking around at the vintage Frankenberry and Cap'n Crunch boxes on the walls but it's definitely not worth it once the food arrives. (which should be about 45 minutes after your order is placed, if your server ever comes of course)

    3rd time a charm? Don't care

I ate here two times since the restaurant opened. The first time was opening weekend so I expected it to be pretty hectic, but there was no excuse for the poor service: our waiter didn't write down our order, and both entrees ended up wrong-fries instead of tots, swiss cheese instead of cheddar, etc. They even served honey with the Monte Cristo instead of Jelly! I wanted to give them another chance since I live a block away and the tater tots were outstanding. The second visit was also subpar. The wait staff seemed less stressed and our order was written down, but again both orders came back wrong. I'm not sure if it's a kitchen problem or a service problem, but I wouldn't recommend this place at all. If it was cheaper by 20[%], absolutely, but given that everything is overpriced AND the ordering process needs work, its not worth the hassle. Too bad!

    Big Let down

I was very excited to try Big Daddy's, and finally decided to brave the wait this morning. We arrived and were told we'd have a 25 minute wait. We were seated in 15 mins. This was the only positive part of the experience. Our server finally greeted us after approximately 10 minutes. After 40 mins, we were STILL waiting for our food. Our order finally arrived and we were missing a side. The food was average, at best. The side arrived ten minutes later. Cold. Definitely not worth a 40 minute wait. What was more frustrating was the service. We had to ask several different people, several different times for a coffee refill. I noticed customers all around us looking very annoyed, including one couple who got up and left after waiting for a server to greet them. Another couple decided to put on their coats and their food arrived only as they were getting ready to leave. The busboys are on top of their game but almost too aggressive with their clearing of plates at tables where people were still eating. Overall, not a great experience. I hope it improves but I definitely won't be giving it another chance anytime soon.

    Ditto

I agree with Anon's review posted on 1/16/08. We too walked out after waiting for over 15 mins. We were seated immediately, given a menu and plenty of time to pore it over. However no one ever came to take our order or even get us any water! The server just kept walking past and said I'll be with you guys shortly every so often. If it was genuinely so, we would have seen sight of him. But the server just kept walking around not really doing anything. The restaurant was not full. The entire time that we sat there, we saw nothing come out of the kitchen. And we weren't the only table that was frustrated. What really annoyed us was the fact this is not a new restaurant from scratch. Big Daddy's a chain along with two other theme restaurants. The company should have had the experience with staff training etc, this should not be happening! We really did look forward to Big Daddy's being opened from the moment that we saw what that spot was going to be and all the renovations being done. What we got instead was a disappointment.

    Overpriced, Noisy, Subpar Service

I couldn't tell you what the food was like because my husband and I had to walk out after the poor service drove us out. The place was incredibly noisy, and even though there were other seats, we were sat in a still dirty two top. The prices looked incredibly steep for a diner (considering there are plenty of real diners in the area), but we didn't have to pay since we took off after waiting ten minutes for someone to acknowledge our existence.

    great place for families

My son and I had a great experience at Big Daddy's. Our meal started in the right direction when our very friendly waitress gave us placemats with games and crayons. The service was quick enough, milk was served in a cute plastic cup with spill-proof top. My son thoroughly enjoyed his grilled cheese, and my mini-burgers were rather tasty. we had plenty of extra tater tots to bring home. Most definitely a great place to take the kids!

    fun with kids

Went last friday night, going against my long held position of never going to a new restaurant until a month has passed since opening. My 8 year old was dying to go so I caved expecting the worst. SURPRISE.....it was a blast. Everywhere I turned was a slogan or a lunchbox or a photo which brought me back to yesteryear(60's70's & 80's). The trivial pursuit cards on the table with questions such as "the name of the doctor on lost in space is?" gave us lots of laughs as well. The service was fine but i'm sure they are going thru the expected bumps.... but why are some of you not expecting that...weird...this isn't a top restaurant who does a few weeks of friends and family dinners followed by a week of discounted food. Food seems expensive at first but my wife ate her kitchen sink salad for 2 days. I loved my lets make a deal sandwich(crispy tater tots were awesome) and my son gobbled up his burger and shake like it was his last meal. I don't know what childless couple would make this a regular spot in their rotation no matter what the service was like.....it's fun(fattening) food and the families will make this place money. Go with the kids....or go for breakfast/brunch... and have fun!!!!
