I've been to every branch of the 'Bergen Bagels' franchise - Dean St., Myrtle (before and after the move), and now on my very corner! The quality of food continues to be high. If you want a well made bagel with a wide range of cream cheeses, tofus, veg., or a salad, or a sandwich - sure it's on the pricey side, but it's fresh and good. The HUGE problem is their service and by that I mean, the guys who work there who seem to be consistently CLUELESS. Is there ANY training of staff? I've been to this Bergen Bagels now 4 times and in 3 of those times, they got the order wrong (and in all four of my visits, I had to repeat my order no less than 5 times. FIVE times. During my last visit, a woman behind me got so frustrated repeating herself, she finally said, "Just give me anything; I don't care anymore!") Also - everyone knows that first you cut a bagel in half, then you toast it, then you schmear it, then you cut it again and wrap it. Nope - some of these guys cut it in quarters after toasting and then try to schmear it... Seriously? It ain't rocket science, guys! ....And it helps if the guys who work there had even a passing knowledge of the menu. Bottom line: Having a good product is half the battle; You have to have a knowledgeable and competent staff.
