Great Food, Great Place
Me and my girlfriend went here for the first time the other night after searching menupages. com for a low key Mexican place. We were not dissapointed. The food was excellent, we shared a burrito and had Crsipy Avocado Rolls, which i have to say were not all that crispy, but were very good. I would definitely go back. The prices were reasonable, and the drinks were good. The service was a little slow, but not too bad.

good food, cheap margaritas, bad service
i am a regular at benny's as i live just a few blocks away. whether you go for brunch, lunch or dinner it is always consistent: good food, not so great service. some days the service has been good, but if its a fri/sat night its packed and expect to wait a while for a table. the main reason i go here is for the $3.50 frozen margaritas, good deal and they are tasty. food is nothing fancy but it is good. all in all a good local spot to grab cheap mexican with friends.

Really disappointed--and I'm not picky!
My friends and I went there on a night a much better nearby Mexican restaurant was closed. This place is what's most annoying about NYC. People go there because it's always popular but if they stopped to think for a second, they wouldn't spend a dime there. We had to wait for almost 2 hours when we were told that the wait would be about 45 minutes. Once we could squeeze into the bar area while waiting, we ordered margarita's that tasted like sweet tarts, with so little tequila that we were basically paying for $6 cups of sugar. Once tables finally opened up, we asked to sit outside (there were 2 tables for four outside that cleared up at the same time and one table inside). We were told that those tables were already taken so we sat inside where the noise was too much for an eatery. The outside tables then sat untouched for ten minutes before two groups strolling by claimed them. The food selection was seriously limited (though I do know that vegetarians can find lots to eat there). And when you get your plate, the food is so plain-tasting it's painful to think this place is supposed to be a Mexican joint. It's really over-priced for what it offers. I'm not some foodie picky eater person, but really this place should be ashamed of itself.

Lousy Customer Service
The food is pretty good as is the location but where is the customer service? How is it o.k. that the appetizer is delivered after the entree and only after asking for it twice? Should you really have to ask three times for your drinks to be delivered? Should you have to wait 10 minutes for cutlery while your food goes cold. The food is good but, what is the point in going if the customer service is beyond lousy.

Dear Benny's
A large group of friends and I ventured out on a Saturday night for a birthday dinner at Benny's. We were initially told the wait would be one hour, and after six beers at the bar across the street, a pizza appetizer and the actual two and a half hour wait, we were finally seated. The cheap margaritas that came out of that giant incinerator were alright and again, cheap. They use that gross tres generales tequila, however. In the words of a small child, kah kah. Regardless our server was so super crabby and unfriendly. Yes we may be a loud, obnoxious birthday group, however almost the entirety of our table is currently or has in the past been a server. We couldn't help but think to our semi drunk selves "Gee, if I were this guy working at an always busy, always lucrative place like this I might be a little friendlier to my customers." But then again, parties of 6 or more equal an undisputed 20% gratuity tax that is added to the check, so what's the point really? It's not like you actually have to be kind when you are guaranteed your 40 bones, no questions asked. The only problem with crappy service is that issue of never going back to the establishment, and word of mouth disappointment. There was one wonderful aspect of our experience, however. The HOST! He was just the brightest little bulb in the hospitality chandelier and his charisma and kindness deserve a raise. If he had been our server we would have had very little to gripe about. I might consider going back just to say hello to him, and then leave. All in all, the food was OK, it's just hard to overlook our miserable server. He brought down the morale level of our group and made it seem as if serving us were a burden.

Return to what's good!
I used to frequent Benny's a couple of times a week for the last 3 years. Lately, the prices have gone up as the food has deteriorated. The price of a margarita has increased yet they use plastic cups instead of glasses. Treat your customers better guys!

MMMMMMmmmmmmmm
I love this place. Everything is really really yummy. I can't imagine how I would have gotten through so many hangovers without the deliciousness of this place.
