    OK but disappointing

Very nice staff and good service BUT the steak was nothing special. I could name at least 5 steakhouses with better meat. As a positive, the staff is great. Our "medium" steak arrived bascially raw (purple in the middle), didn't have much flavor, and the appetizers were all sub par. Wasn't worth an average of over $100 per person. I won't be back.

    Everything Amazing, Until The Steak!

My husband and I went here for our anniversary. When we told them we were celebrating a special occasion, they sat us in a gorgeous huge round booth for just the two of us. The service was fantastic, the waiter helped us pick a perfect wine (an Mondavi Cabernet) and didn't even try up-selling us. The appetizers were delicious. We split a lobster cocktail and each had a slice of bacon. The bacon blew Lugers and Wolfgangs out of the water. Then the steak came (porterhouse for 2). It looked amazing, it was cooked to the perfect temperature, and it was utterly tasteless. Not even gobs of salt and pepper could save it. Needless to say we were really disappointed. Everything else about the place was superb, from greeting to service to ambience. Too bad the steaks were so tasteless. Really made us wonder if the chef tasted his own food.

    Just not enough

Went into Benjamins with high expectations based on recent reviews and the fact that it is new. Left feeling somewhat cheated in that it barely measured up to more seasoned Steakhouses. The atmosphere is nice and the food and service was ok, but when I leave a steakhouse, I want to feel like I do after a Thanksgiving dinner. Here, I think the servings could be much larger, especially in light of the prices paid. The seafood appetizer was sparce for a table of four, with little more than 1 shrimp, clam, etc for each. Asked the waiter to bring enough to feed four and he simply brought individual servings out on platter which he then redisturbuted to each of us. Didnt see the point to that as there was nothing left once he served each of us. Steak dinner was tasty and on par, but the side dishes again where sparce with little more than a spoonful of each to satisfy us. Felt more like a tasting experience than a true compliment to our steaks. Things picked up in the dessert menu but oddly enough, after enjoying a true steak dinner, there is little room left for dessert. Overall, if you are truly in need of a steak dinner and are willing to pay comparable prices, you will do well to go elsewhere.

    The best around, PERIOD

Easily the best steakhouse in the city. While extremely pricey, it is absolutely worth it. Simply unbeatable service, taste and quality. Consistent every time on down to the freshness of the amazing onion rolls. The staff is top notch and Benjamin is seemingly always there to shake your hand and make sure everything is to your liking. I go to Benjamins whenever i need to indulge in all the best. Amazing for business lunches and dinners as well as for impressing significant others. Hands down, the best.

    Fantastic steak, pedestrian service

I work in the neighborhood and am a fairly regular customer. I've been to all the best steakhouses and Benjamin's steak is right up there. The service is consistently in the poor to average range, and it frustrates me because I love the food. Lunch is particularly frustrating because you notice the indifference more when you're pressed for time. The blame lies with management who permit it. I'll eat there because I like the food, but when I have an important client or personal guests I'll take them somewhere else.

    The best steak ever

The fireplace, the comfortanle brown leather seats, the amazing and huge pieces of meat! Overall, we had a very pleasurable experience. The crab cakes were divine. The steak was cooked to our liking - PERFECTION. The meat simply melted in your mouth. The seasoning was perfect and did not need any sauces to complement the steak. Highly recommended.

    Great food and service

I have been here on several occassions for business functions and have been very impressed with the food and staff. The meat has always been delicious (although sometimes slightly too charred), the seafood apps are solid, and so are the side dishes, though the creamed spinach is a little too creamy for my tastes. Service is great and always looking to please, although sometimes they are too eager. On one visit I had four different people (two waiters, two maitre d's) come up to me within a span of 5 minutes asking how everything was, which was a bit of overkill. But overall highly recommended to add to your list of must visit steakhouses in NYC.
