I don't know how anyone could write a bad review on Benihana -The 56th Street locale in NYC is one of the nicest restaurants in existence. The hostesses are sweet and attentive, the chefs funny and excellent at what they do - the service is prompt & friendly. Where can you get a floor show of this quality (the chefs do their stuff with humor and it's so much fun to watch!) -plus Benihana's generous annual $30 birthday coupon is unheard of in this day and age. I go to Benihanas in Miami and elsewhere I always feel at home here and I bring guests. whenever I can - the food is mouth watering and any adult becomes a kid watching the master chefs perform their incredible juggling skills. Plus the 56th Street restaurant is near all shows and theaters. Bravo for Benihana! the show is part of the some of the best sights in NYC, and the staff is just wonderful. The prices for lunch and dinner are incredibly reasonable for expensive New York, and the drinks are moderately priced. Benihanas never fails to impress friends and clients - trust me! I hope Benihana gets the credit it deserves for a meal well done and served with love and care! Naysayers - go home! BENIHANAS IS THE BEST DEAL IN NEW YORK CITY!!!

Kind of touristy, but my seafood & noodle dish was good. Place a bit shabby now, but just received email saying NYC closing Sept. 5, 2011 for renovation. OK...I belong to their Chef's Table & waited one year for their $30 Birthday Certificate which is for month of Sept, Mon-Thurs. Received it Thurs in mail, now can't use since they are closing. Asked if I could use when they reopen. They said no...so since I can't get to LI, NJ & I'm not going to Vegas this year, it is worthless. No flexibility on restaurant's part. If they are closing their store, they should allow me in Manhattan to use the certificate when they make a NYC restaurant available. Oh well...there are too many UWS Japanese restaurants to worry about Benihana, but I'll never patronize them again. Too rigid & this was a scam for me.

I have been to this chain before in nj and it was quite good. The food here is bland and unremarkable. The teppanyaki (s?) master was slow and not funny and the prices were horrible. Both the steak and chicken were dry and over cooked plus NOT FRESH.... Avoid this restaurant please!!! Your money is best spent elsewhere!

Went here for a bday lunch which was thirty bucks off with a coupon. The place was still fairly empty since it was early lunch and the day before New Year's Eve. Servers barely had a grasp of the English language and our chef was Indian! (wait, I thought this was a Japansese restaurant!) Had the steak and shrimp which was definitely nothing to rave and not worth $28.50. Lunch prices are much cheaper and more in line with the quality of food. So take a chance with this place only at lunchtime with friends or family other than that the food, wait time and prices are not worth it.

Always a fun and great place to eat. You always know what your are in store for. If you have been to one you have been to them all. The only issue we have seen here is the unfriendly staff. Rude and unhelpful. If you ever tried to take out from here, they wont let you Fri, Sat or Sun... Doesnt matter what you order or if they are busy or not, its there policy. Fire some staff members, cut the no take out policy and hire some more friendly employees and there business would be great! Until than, we just have to deal with the rudeness of the employees. Enjoy.

Everyone knows the schtick by now. You get an asian chef, usually pretty talented and fun, who is your hibatchi cook and host for the night. If that's the reason you go to Benihana, enjoy. Because, you really shouldn't go for the food or drinks. It's incredibly overpriced, and really uncomfortable seating arrangements. The edamame is standard, even good. But everything else turns out burnt and over-seasoned. Everyone knows this place is a gimmick.

The food was great... the service was good, but the prices are a little high.
